our pike’s peak adventure
November 19, 2010

this week i’m so excited to have my sister and dear friend in town for a visit. they are our first official visitors since the big move! to really show them the views of colorado, we took a cog to the top of pike’s peak. it’s the highest cog in the world and the views are absolutely stunning!

i love looking at the tree line on this mountain, it makes for such a pretty cap on the top.

the day was so clear and the sky was such a brilliant blue, it was the perfect conditions to see way off in the distance. these snow capped mountains are over 100 miles away!

even though the high in colorado springs was 60°F yesterday, on the top of pike’s peak it was 4°F with winds blowing up to 70 mph! i’ve never experienced such conditions! the wind was so strong that we could fall into backwards and not fall down. there was also a sweet little cafe on top where we enjoyed some warm hot chocolate and some chili.

and here’s the little red train we traveled on!
we’re going to be driving home to north carolina this weekend for thanksgiving, so i’ll be signing off until monday. i hope each of you have a wonderful weekend and i hope to see you back here next week! love, bonnie

Wow, what an amazing view! I remember when my hubby & I flew over CO on the way to SF in August … so spectacular. I hope you have a great Thanksgiving & a safe drive to & from NC :)
happy thanksgiving! :)
that’s crazy, about the wind! :)
I could never imagine running around up there in 4 degree weather with those winds! When we went, it was the middle of July. Sheesh!
love the little red train!
have a wonderful time in NC – travel safely!
We love Pike’s Peak. Have seen it in summer and winter. Love your photos!
