woo-hoooo! how fun. ok, well here it goes. we recycle,
we compost,
we grow as much of our own food as we can,
we buy local,
we use compact flourescents,
we wash clothes on cold,
we only use the air conditioning and heat if absolutely necessary,
we do a lot more things, but I feel bad about posting so many so I will stop here! HAPPY EARTH DAY!
yes, happy Earth day!!
my 2 girls (ages 4 and 7) and I will be completing our 2nd Annual Garbage Walk today…last year we walked about 2 miles around our neighborhood picking up litter and collected nearly 3 garbage bags full…hope to do it every Earth day for years to come!
we do much of what Jenn listed so far …I’ll throw out a few different ones…we use a re usable lunch sack and snack bags for my daughter’s lunch, as well as re usable bags for ALL our shopping, and recycled garbage bags…
my business is also eco conscious – from the products to the packaging, shipping materials to the office supplies!
Jenn, I too feel a bit greedy to keep going…so one last item…we use many “green” cleaning supplies and soaps…
Our composting and recycling has gotten our household of two (plus a pooch) down to less than one garbage bag a week. It’s become a sort of game to see how little waste we can generate!
We bring reusable bags with us everywhere! Our going home to roost reusable bags have greened our produce shopping habits big time!
Yay Earth Day!
My husband and I recycle what we can
and I would certainly want a new grocery tote to reuse ;)
I drive a hybrid
TMI I know—but I try to pee in the shower—did I just commit blog suicide?
oh, great idea for a giveaway! =)
I’m going to start biking to the gym. It’s close enough to make for a good warm-up/cool-down, be green, and save me the silly 50 cent parking charge.
We’re going to be growing our own herbs and tomatoes on the balcony this summer instead of getting them at the store (thereby having them trucked/flown in from who knows where).
Bring a Reusable bag to the grocery store!
We got our neighbor to switch to an eco-friendly energy supplier for his apartment, does that count? =)
Bring a mug to Starbucks/Dunkin Donuts
I have a stack of old clothes here in my office/craft room that are going to be my ‘new fabric’ for a few projects I have planned, yay for re-purposing! I actually ‘stole’ a good shirt from my own drawers b/c I’d rather use it for a certain project than keep wearing it, lol.
We have just made the switch from paper napkins to cloth. Yay for learning how to sew neatly-tucked corners =) Too bad my husband hardly uses his though – he says they’re too nice looking to use, ha ha!
ok, done now, lol! Hope you’re having a sunny day!
couldn’t resist – saw we can also list what we’ve already been doing – and doggone, your market totes are darling!
We use all eco-friendly light bulbs
I bike to work every day
My husband bikes to/from work every day instead of driving or taking the bus, I bike lotsa places instead of driving.
We buy local organic eggs
We recycle!
I made cloth napkins for us to use out of scrap material around my house.
For lunch the kids get all reusable containers, from thermos’ to tupperware. No throwaway bags or utensils.
I got 10 trees from the arbor day foundation! We will be planting them in our yard in honor of Earth Day this year.
We switched to compact flourescent bulbs a year ago and have saved a ton of money and energy!
I am working to change all our faucets and shower heads to low flow. Kitchen and master shower already done! (did the high volume ones first)
happy earth day! we are doing a big neighborhood trash pick up today and plant some more seeds for the garden. we took a trip to the dump & recycling center this week and started on building a bigger compost center in the yard….all with the kids in tow…plus hese other earth week activities: http://lobotomeblog.blogspot.com/2010/04/earth-week.html
ps – cute bag!! :)
We use a washable air filter on our return unit. It saves money and trash ;)
What a great looking bag!
We recycle, carry re-usable bags everywhere, I do not buy any bottled water, I grow some vegetables in the garden, take short showers, use the bike instead of the car as much as possible, buy eco-friendly cleaning products, wash clothes in cold, line dry as much as possible, keep heating to a minimum, try to consume less overall, use recheargable batteries.
we use filtered tap water instead of bottles, i hate bottled water
compact fluorescents!
I also try to get local & seasonal produce as much as possible and cut back on how much meat we eat. I buy fish from sustainable sources and not a lot of it. I try to educate my daughter and give the best example I can.
we planted our own veggies this year: tomatoes, hot peppers, and bell peppers so far
in my crafts, I try to use organic as much as possible, upcycle and repurpose. In my new business, I am hoping to go fully organic within the year!
I think this is it for me, I have been greedy enough! Fingers crossed!
Drink more water and less bottled drinks!
lobotoME…thanks for sharing your link…love that you celebrate for the entire week…will be “stealing” that idea for next year! :)
We use reusable shopping bags (a lot) and they’re getting pretty beat up so it’s time for a new one. ;)
We return our bottles and cans.
We keep most of our kitchen appliances unplugged.
Of course by “We” I mean me and my boyfriend. I promise I’m not crazy. :) Anyway, I use my reusable coffee mug all the time.
We keep the lights turned off as much as possible.
