that’s right, we’re having an online garage sale! you all know that we’re moving at the end of the month, and that we’ve already found a place to live (yeah!). what does that mean? we need to downsize. everyone seems to know that i have a weakness for woodland animals. just this past weekend, a friend of mine saw a deer print at a thrift store and called me over just to make sure i didn’t miss it. i’m not sure exactly what it is about them, but i think these creatures take me back to nature, no matter where i am. especially when they are illustrated as beautifully as these. youareconstance by rebekah garibay features one sweet print after another- from birds and deer to rabbits and skunks!

hello, lovelies! as promised, i have more pictures for you! this time, they are just from around the santa ynez valley. you’ll see photos from both solvang and santa ynez, ca- as they are both teeny weeny towns just 3 miles apart. you can click on the photos above to see them larger.

pictures #1 & 2: this is farm land. with everything from cows to horses to alpacas and ostriches, there’s no shortage of beautiful rolling hills and grazing happy animals.

#3: this very well could become my new favorite spot. bloom yoga, the sign hardly readable from the blossoming wisteria all around.

#4: solvang boasts green open spaces around every corner. this is a public space where you’ll find people reading, napping or playing with their dogs right downtown.

#5: the valley hard wear store. they have already-fruiting orange, lemon and grapefruit trees for only $25. i’ve got my eye on several.

#6-8: the mission. it’s peaceful, serene and full of old charm.

#9-10: solvang is known as the “danish capital of america” as it was founded by a group of danes who traveled west to establish a danish colony far from the midwestern winters. the city is home to a number of bakeries, restaurants, and merchants all offering a taste of denmark and most of the architecture reflects traditional danish style.

#11: the lavender farm in santa ynez. yes, a lavender farm! a little market sits at the end of the drive with bulk lavender and infused goodies of all sorts for sale. we were greeted with olives bouncing off the hood of our car, as the trees that you see lining the property are olive trees that were planted in 1831.

#12: poppies and flowers of all sorts are scattered all over the town. color is around every corner and the whole city seems to be in bloom.

hello, lovelies!! guess what. WE FOUND A HOME!! let me tell you, it is magical here. however, the rental scene is pretty grim here in santa ynez, california. we looked and we looked and not only are there no rental signs posted anywhere (i mean, not even one), but the cost of living is as expected, pretty outrageous.

after a hard afternoon and a long prayer, the nifty craigslist app on my phone notified me of a new listing. a converted barn, in our price range that included EVERYTHING on my wish list. God is good.

our little piece of heaven is a vine covered renovated barn with a trellis front and a screen door. a front and back yard for toaster, mature shade trees and several perfect spots for veggie gardening. fruit trees surround the property and it’s just over a mile from david’s work.

they were doing a little bit of construction so the inside pictures aren’t quite the best, but this is our view looking out from the living room and open kitchen. it’s a one bedroom, one bath with a full kitchen and a loft for guests to sleep in. we’ll be looking for an old ladder to set up as access to that, so the local thrift stores will be seeing me very soon.

this is the view from our porch. the house sits right on a vineyard and rolling hills are just off in the distance. ahhhh.

and this is yet another little gem that’s on the property. the house is only about 1000 square feet, so we’re really excited to have some outdoor living space. i’m thinking an old table with mix and match chairs could make this the perfect outdoor dining area. what do you think?

tomorrow i’ll be sharing with you more of the town so you can see just what kind of place this is. it’s full of lavender farms and strawberry stands. you’re going to love it.
