on my bookshelf
February 3, 2011
hello, friends! i’ve been enjoying some really great reads lately and thought you might like to know the latest additions to my bookshelf!

1. creative, inc.- the ultimate guide to running a successful freelance business by meg mateo ilasco & joy deangdeelert cho. this crafster book teaches you everything you need to know about starting your own freelance biz. from setting up shop to working with clients and agents- the advice in this book is priceless.
2. the total money makeover by dave ramsey. finally! a book that spells out exactly what you should do with your finances in an easy to understand way. the sure-fire way to get out of debt, stay out of it, and start managing your finances responsibly. i’m telling you, this is the best book i’ve read in a very long time.
3. the conscious cook by tal ronnen. i just got this fantastic cook book in the mail this week! it’s 100% vegan, and you’d never know it. with creamy, ‘meaty’, and easy-to-fix-unusual meals throughout, i’m going to be cooking my way through this one start to finish.
4. the history of redemption edited by ronnie smith and illustrated by christopher koelle. i’ve talked about this book before and was so excited to finally get it. the illustrations are absolutely stunning and the story (of course) is timelessly beautiful.

thanks so much bonnie for your nice review of our book! -joy
After you originally posted about The History of Redemption I favorited a few of his prints…one of which my husband actually loved as well (we are total opposites in art tastes!). My mom was so inspired that she created accounts so that she could make her first Etsy purchase and send us a print for Christmas. =) I also told a friend of mine and she ended up getting the book for her dad for Christmas! =) Thanks for the great ideas!
A few of my favorites so far this year include:
Simple Times: Crafts for Poor People by Amy Sedaris
Lester Higata’s 20th Century by Barbara Hamby
My Uncle Oswald by Roald Dahl
Seriously Funny–a collection of poems
Not Becoming My Mother by Ruth Riechl
this is just so far this year!!! thanks for your recommendations! ♥
joy, of course! you both did an outstanding job!
juliette, i’m so happy to hear how that post inspired you! i too, got the book for christmas and it is such a wonderful gift. thank you so much for sharing!
jenn- going to check these out for sure, thank you!
honestly i wouldn’t know where to start since my house more closely resembles a library but … i’m currently reading “Remarkable Creatures” by Tracy Chevalier which is wonderful, & i bought “Unleashed 3″ by Josef Hoflehner before Christmas, his photography is absolutely breath taking. Creative Inc is on my “to read” pile as well though.
pretty big ramsey fans around here- we are trying to do most of everything he says! ;)
great list! i haven’t read any of these so am thankful for your suggestions.
i just finished reading “same kind of different as me” and love, LoVEd it.
just found out one of my friends went to school with Christopher Koelle! she says he and his wife are the sweetest people ever! such a small world!
jenn, how fun! when i met him i could tell that he was such a nice and genuine person, too. would love to have met his wife!
kate- we are too! we’re excited to see what the future holds according to his plan. :)
oh i love dave ramsy’s books and dvds!! such good teaching!!
I’m reading Duct Tape Marketing by John Jantsch (as recommended by April Bowles of Blacksburg Belle) and am finding a lot of actions I can take right away to keep improving my business, I love when that happens! I’m also reading Nature Stories by Jules Renard. It’s nice to read about animals and nature at this time of year :)
I’m just about to start UnMarketing by Scott Stratten, looks awesome “Stop Marketing. Start Engaging”
Oh, and I tried my darnedest to find my copy of The Secret Garden and can’t locate it, otherwise I’d be reading it for sure! It’s my favorite book for spring reading :)
