planted mugs + printable tags

planted mugs + printable tags

printable plant tags

yesterday, i was so inspired after seeing these planted mugs over on design*sponge, that i decided to make some myself, as well as design some gift tags to go along with them! i was looking for a gift idea that was sweet, affordable and memorable – and voila. thanks design*sponge!

planted mugs + printable tags

each planted mug only cost me $6 to make (can i get a woot woot?!). here’s what you need:

– any type of mug – i grabbed mine from target for $3 a piece
– small plants to fit inside – i got mine from lowes for $2.98 a plant
– a few pebbles or rocks (you can usually just find some outside!)

first fill the bottom of each mug with a few pebbles, then simply place your plant in the mug and pack down the dirt around it. you may find it helpful to loosen the roots before you insert the plant.

another nice touch is to add a gift tag and a small bag of your favorite coffee, tea or mulling spices. i went ahead and made these tags a printable for you, so you can use them as well! just fill out the back with the plant instructions so that the recipient will know how to take care of the plant. i punched a hole in the tea bag and tag and tied it up onto a twig (stuck in the soil) using baker’s twine.

just click on the image above to download and print these gift tags to go along with your planted mugs. have fun!

i’ve been enthralled this season by the decor trend of tabletop trees. often small, lopsided and a little scraggly, i love the unique feeling of sweetness they have. some are fully decorated, some look as though they’ve had lights thrown on them, and others are left totally natural and bare. they’re perfect for small spaces, budget decorating or anyone who wants to add a twist to the traditional tree. though i already have my tree for the season, i’m tempted to go get a little guy to put across the room! i think they would even be nice to leave up year round (sans the ornaments).

what size tree do you have this year?

acorn footwear giveaway

December 17, 2012

Posted by in giveaway

Acorn has always been one of my favorite footwear companies. their slippers, boots and socks are not only incredibly cozy and comfy, but they’re cute and stylish, too! though i have owned several pairs of Acorns over the years, my all time favorite is the crosslander boot and today, i’m beyond excited to offer a pair to one of you lucky readers!

these boots are perfect for keeping your feet warm and comfy this winter. i love that they’re stylish enough to wear out, but comfy enough to wear as a house slipper (and perfect for chilly floors like mine!).  Acorn is also working hard to be as eco-friendly as possible, so i thought you might like a run down of their latest stats (they even offer vegan certified shoes!):

sustainable materials used throughout their collections:

•  organic cotton terry
•  hemp
•  recycled PET polyester
•  TPR outsoles using up to 25% recycled content
•  Policork™ molded insoles made of 70% recycled materials
•  CFC-free PU molded footbeds and recycled content in the outsoles
•  CFC-FREE PU molded footbeds
•  ISA Leathers

giveaway from acorn

this winter, Acorn is also working hard to make a difference for children across the country. throughout the month of december, Acorn will donate one dollar to the boys & girls clubs of america for every pair of Acorn slippers and shoes sold in-store and online as part of its ‘love to grow on’ campaign! the funds raised through Acorn’s campaign will support the boys & girls clubs of america programs that promote academic success, good character and citizenship, and healthy lifestyles.

ACORN boots giveaway

about the crosslander boots. these boots have a soft, water-repellent outside and are fully lined with soft sherpa fleece on the inside for warmth and durability. the footbed has a contoured, removable eva insole with anatomic arch support and a rubber outsole with hand-pressed natural jute for a great non-slip traction.

deadline: giveaway will end friday, december 21st at 10am, eastern standard time. the winner will be drawn using a random number generator and announced on this post shortly after.

to enter: head on over to Acorn, and check out their footwear. then come back here and leave a comment letting us know why you would love to have a pair of these boots.

additional ways to enter:

>> like both going home to roost and Acorn on facebook, and leave another comment here letting us know you did so.

>> share on twitter and use handles @gohometoroost and @ACORNfootwear. then come back here and leave another comment letting us know you did so.

>> share on pinterest and include hashtags #acornfootwear & #goinghometoroost. come back here and leave another comment with the url of your pin.
