sunny day

golden day by trisha brink design

i debated a little on whether or not to share this on ghtr, but this blog is a direct reflection of my life, and you all are like family to me. so, here’s a snippet of my life lately! david, my husband, is a professional cyclist and cycling coach, and while riding with an athlete in albuquerque, new mexico last week had a major crash and shattered his collarbone in to 7 pieces. oh no!

i received the dreaded phone call while they were still on the side of the road, uncertain of what other damage might have occurred. i don’t do well with this kind of stuff. it was especially hard because i was in north carolina at the time (thankfully with my family). i struggle with worrying too much as it is, and constantly have to pray away my fear and worry when it comes to his riding and general extreme-ness.

within a few hours, david had seen a surgeon and scheduled surgery for the next morning. i quickly researched flights and booked one that would get me there in time for his surgery. family took me to the airport (an all-night adventure) for my 6am flight and i arrived just in time to give him a smooch before they rolled him back. sigh.

surgery took 90 minutes longer than expected (tick-tock-tick-tock), as they quickly realized his collarbone had several shattered pieces and putting the jigsaw puzzle back together was quite the challenge. you can see his before and after x-rays if you want (they are pretty incredible!). needless to say, he is now the proud new owner of 9 screws and a titanium plate.

he came through the surgery without a hitch and despite a few (very) rough days, we’re making it alright. we reluctantly made the trip back to north carolina on saturday and are so happy to be home and surrounded by family (we return to california next week). he’s progressing slowly but surely and is expected to make a full recovery, praise the Lord!

i am above all thankful. i realize it could have been much (much) worse and i am incredibly grateful for being able to make the trip, safe travels and an amazing surgeon. i just wanted to share with you a bit of my life, as things are not always overflowing with flowers and butterflies behind the scene. :) for now, i’ve got to go back to playing nurse. happy monday!

weekend getaway

hello, lovelies! how are you? how was your holiday weekend? this past week my mister was out of town for work, so my sister came to visit from north carolina. we had so much fun exploring the area (something i hadn’t had much time to do you yet) and wanted to quickly share with you some adventures we went on. we headed up north and spent the day exploring a little place called avila beach. and let me tell you, what a little treasure we found!

we went sea kayaking, and though the marine layer (that so often settles here in the summer) was thick and foggy, the scenery was still beautiful. we got to see several california seals, a cute little otter, a few sea caves and even some whales!

to top it off we visited a miniauture donkey farm (everyone say awwww) and finished the night off by soaking in an all natural hot spring. if you ever come to the central coast of california, let me suggest you visit avila beach, the avila valley barn, and eat at the olde port inn. you’ll have so much fun!

hi sweets! before logging off for the weekend, i wanted to share with you some quick glimpses of our new home! everything is not quite ready yet for a big reveal, but i’ve got some areas that i wanted to go ahead and show you. :)

glimpses of our new home

this is looking through our kitchen nook. i just got this chalkboard wall decal in the mail this week, i love it so much!

glimpses of our new home

one of my favorite finds has been this old trunk. i use it to stow guest linens in and place my beachy collections on top of.

glimpses of our new home

the very beginnings of my sewing nook- the rest of it has a long way to go still. ;)

glimpses of our new home

remember my thrift find?

glimpses of our new home

a few garden greens in my ‘green house’ corner.

glimpses of our new home

this is my work spot, in fact i’m sittin’ here now!

glimpses of our new home

more thrifted finds that i dolled up with some fabric from my mom.

glimpses of our new home

oh, and this is my new favorite plant! it’s a succulent called ‘string of pearls’.

glimpses of our new home

and our favorite spot to relax outdoors. i’m working on an eating area and grill for out here as well, but for now these will do.

glimpses of our new home

so that’s a sneak peak, loves! have a lovely weekend!

that’s right, we’re having an online garage sale! you all know that we’re moving at the end of the month, and that we’ve already found a place to live (yeah!). what does that mean? we need to downsize. BIG TIME! what does that mean for you? you get to attend our garage sale right from your own home! no waking up early, no getting lost trying to find us, no hustle and bustle with other shoppers. just you in your pjs. ahhh.

we’ll be listing more and more things over the next few weeks, so stay tuned! all furniture must be picked up locally (we’re in colorado springs, co) but all home decor is available for shipping. click here to read more about how we’re handling things, and let me know if you have any questions.

happy shopping! xox, bonnie (& dave)

part three of our road trip was visiting our hometown in north carolina and spending some time with our families. it was warm, green and bursting with blooms! i am so thankful for the time we spent there. it’s always hard to go home and sad to leave, but i’m excited for the opportunities we have ahead and can’t wait to see what the future brings. we are blessed with the most amazing families, so here’s a big shout out to them- thank you for all the delicious meals and all that you did for us! we love you. :) xox

grandmothers

grandmothers

{tiarella}

today i will walk to my grandmother’s house for a visit. she’ll be turning 89 this october and she is so exuberantly full of life. her favorite color is blue and she will undoubtedly be wearing several different shades of it today. we will spend the afternoon together with the air cut off, the curtains drawn and the windows open. we will talk about family, the past and also the future. she will show me around all of her house plants (some 97 and counting), some dating back to 50 years old or more. she will share with me some lemons from her lemon tree that she ever so carefully moves inside and out each season, self pollinating it with a paint brush every year. she will show me her ever so fragile tomato seedlings that she’s started on the heat bed that my grandfather built her some ten years ago before he passed away. we will almost certainly play a game of skip-bo and sip on a can of dr. pepper through a salvaged straw she’s saved from eating out. this will be the only soda i drink until we meet again. we will talk about life, love and prayer. though she’s in excellent health, not being around her is one of the hardest things about not living here anymore. i can’t bare to think that i’m missing out on the simple joys of her life like the ones above. but that’s what makes days like this so special.
