hello, lovelies! how are you? how was your holiday weekend? this past week my mister was out of town for work, so my sister came to visit from north carolina. we had so much fun exploring the area (something i hadn’t had much time to do you yet) and wanted to quickly share with you some adventures we went on. we headed up north and spent the day exploring a little place called avila beach. and let me tell you, what a little treasure we found!

we went sea kayaking, and though the marine layer (that so often settles here in the summer) was thick and foggy, the scenery was still beautiful. we got to see several california seals, a cute little otter, a few sea caves and even some whales!

to top it off we visited a miniauture donkey farm (everyone say awwww) and finished the night off by soaking in an all natural hot spring. if you ever come to the central coast of california, let me suggest you visit avila beach, the avila valley barn, and eat at the olde port inn. you’ll have so much fun!

hi sweets! before logging off for the weekend, i wanted to share with you some quick glimpses of our new home! everything is not quite ready yet for a big reveal, but i’ve got some areas that i wanted to go ahead and show you. :)

this is looking through our kitchen nook. i just got this chalkboard wall decal in the mail this week, i love it so much!

one of my favorite finds has been this old trunk. i use it to stow guest linens in and place my beachy collections on top of.

that’s right, we’re having an online garage sale! you all know that we’re moving at the end of the month, and that we’ve already found a place to live (yeah!). what does that mean? we need to downsize. BIG TIME! what does that mean for you? you get to attend our garage sale right from your own home! no waking up early, no getting lost trying to find us, no hustle and bustle with other shoppers. just you in your pjs. ahhh.

part three of our road trip was visiting our hometown in north carolina and spending some time with our families. it was warm, green and bursting with blooms! i am so thankful for the time we spent there. it’s always hard to go home and sad to leave, but i’m excited for the opportunities we have ahead and can’t wait to see what the future brings. we are blessed with the most amazing families, so here’s a big shout out to them- thank you for all the delicious meals and all that you did for us! we love you. :) xox

today i will walk to my grandmother’s house for a visit. she’ll be turning 89 this october and she is so exuberantly full of life. her favorite color is blue and she will undoubtedly be wearing several different shades of it today. we will spend the afternoon together with the air cut off, the curtains drawn and the windows open. we will talk about family, the past and also the future. she will show me around all of her house plants (some 97 and counting), some dating back to 50 years old or more. she will share with me some lemons from her lemon tree that she ever so carefully moves inside and out each season, self pollinating it with a paint brush every year. she will show me her ever so fragile tomato seedlings that she’s started on the heat bed that my grandfather built her some ten years ago before he passed away. we will almost certainly play a game of skip-bo and sip on a can of dr. pepper through a salvaged straw she’s saved from eating out. this will be the only soda i drink until we meet again. we will talk about life, love and prayer. though she’s in excellent health, not being around her is one of the hardest things about not living here anymore. i can’t bare to think that i’m missing out on the simple joys of her life like the ones above. but that’s what makes days like this so special.

actually, you’ve met my mom before, but not quite like this. many of you know that she owns a quilt shop, and that all of my creative qualities are directly derived from her- as she’s a total creative genius! she’s recently started making some quick videos featuring the latest additions to her shop, and i think they are such a good idea (plus i love to see how cute she is). in the video above, you’ll get to meet her and see a bit of her shop. if you see anything you like, i know they are always happy to take phone orders (i used to work there!)- just give them a call!

happy monday, friends! did you have a good weekend? our friday and saturday was filled with good food, friends and lots of sunshine. all day yesterday (16 hours, total) were spent in route to our next destination: texas for a day before we continue homeward-bound! before we moved on, i wanted to wrap up our week in arizona for you with a few more pictures!

there’s just nothing better than waking up to the sunshine and fresh morning air. the weather was near perfect, highs around 80 during the day and lows of about 40 at night. hello, sunshine!

hello lovelies! well, we’re off on our big road trip and i wanted to share with you our first few days on the road! i won’t be talking about the trip everyday (don’t fret), but will try to give you a few updates a week. that way, you can see the country with us!

 
day 1: drive. arrive to new mexico just in time to hit the sack.

 

 
day 2: set up camp in new mexico. go to david’s bike race. swing on the swings at the empty playground and let toaster get dirty. really dirty. bathe toaster in the (freezing) river. build a campfire (and almost start a forest fire). make and eat dinner (pasta and soup). play a (long) game of bananagrams. go to bed.

 
day 3: pack up camp. drive to arizona. ponder why the plants are so angry. set up camp. go take pictures of the super neato cacti. gather firewood and build a big fire. make dinner (veggie burgers and green beans). lay under the stars. pick out the satellites and the galaxies. be in awe of the universe. go to bed.
