olfa giveaway!

July 14, 2014

olfa giveaway! (2)

i’ve used OLFA prodcuts for as long as i can remember. when i was young, my mom’s OLFA rotary cutters were labeled ‘for fabric only’ and were strictly forbidden to play with (since there was a sharp blade involved). i can still remember the first time i was allowed to use one all by myself. i felt so special! now, i use OLFA‘s products nearly every day. they make crafting and sewing so much easier!

this year, OLFA is celebrating the 35th anniversary of the invention of the rotary cutter. to celebrate, they’ve been so kind to offer a giveaway for YOU!

olfa giveaway! (3)

today’s giveaway consists of two of my all time favorite OLFA products. fist is a 6×8″ self healing rotarty mat. it’s the perfect size for craft projects and to take along with you as your travel.  it’s double-sided with yellow guidelines on one side, and solid on the opposite side for general cutting. rotary mats protect your work area and greatly extend the life of your rotary blades, plus with measurement guidelines they make precise cutting a cinch!

the second product is the 28mm rotary cutter. it’s perfect for small-scale projects, miniatures and tight corners. the cutter is a rolling razor blade used to cut fabrics into shapes, strips and pieces for sewing, quilting and craft projects. the blade is made of high quality tungsten carbide tool steel for unparalleled sharpness and superior edge retention. let me tell you, it’s sharp!

happy monday, folks! i’m delighted to hand over the blog today to kim parker, creative behind the sisters of nature mobile boutique. wtih a few pieces of my fabric, sweet as honey, and kim’s expert handbag making skills, we’ve joined forces to bring you one great giveaway! without further ado, here’s kim!

sisters of nature handbag giveaway

I’m Kimberly Parker, handbag designer, DIYer, and owner of Sisters of Nature mobile boutique. I have been making handbags for over 15 years. I know that’s hard to believe since I’m not quite 30 yet, but it’s always been in my blood. I remember being a teenager and riding my bike to local boutiques to pitch my handbag collections. Sometimes it worked and they would sell my line of bags and sometimes they would just laugh at me because I didn’t know the difference between wholesale and retail and didn’t have a clue.

Sewing and making handbags seems to be the one passion that has stuck around over the years. My mother first taught me how to sew when I was…well before I can even remember. People lovingly called her “the bag lady” because she was always making little totes, filling them with homemade sourdough bread, and taking them to people who needed a little cheering up. I have fond memories of her sitting behind me and coaxing me along as we’d have to stop every few minutes for her to detangle the mess I had made of the bobbin. Really it was her belief in me and her constantly saying, “Kimberly, you NEED to start a business,” that led me to actually doing it.

Today, I create and sell my handbag line along-side many other talented makers and indie designers in my mobile boutique in Nashville. Each of the bags I create are all unique and have their own personality. I sometimes like to imagine the woman who will use it and all the fun places she’ll go with it. I can’t wait to see where our mobile boutique goes next and I hope you’ll stay in touch so you can see where we go too. Thanks for letting me hijack Going Home to Roost for a few moments. I hope you are having fun with Bonnie’s lovely fabric collection too. Now go out and be creative!

sweet as honey grand giveaway! (4)

hello, lovelies! i’m so excited to personally offer you a grand giveaway today! i’ve bundled up a big stack of my latest fabric collection, sweet as honey, and i’m ready to send it to one of you creative ladies (or gents!). enter to win 1 yard of each piece of sweet as honey in your choice of colorways (see below). that’s 10 yards total- valued at over $120!

before we get to the fun part, i wanted to share with you a little about the inspiration behind the collection. i happily designed sweet as honey while we were living in this sunny cottage on the central coast of california (we’re now snuggled up in the mountains of north carolina!). the days were always sunny and the weather was always perfect. in fact, it was like a little slice of heaven! i gardened year round and always had fresh flowers ready to pick. i spent most of my time outdoors, soaking up nature in all it’s glory. our tiny town also just happened to have the sweetest honey i’ve ever tasted in my life. i purchased it from a local farmer and could eat it by the spoonfulls! in fact, i love it so much that i still have my friends mail me a jar every now and again. it rarely rained, but when it did i soaked up every drop. birds could be seen flying over the vineyard in front of our cottage at any given moment. it was the perfect place to dream up this fabric line and i’m so happy to share it with you. i hope it brings a little sunshine to home!
