my future self

January 16, 2015

do something today your future self will thank you for

this quote from natural life really resonated with me, plus the design is beautiful, don’t you think? it goes along with another favorite philosophy of mine: if it won’t matter in a year from now, it doesn’t really matter. thinking this way helps me focus on the most important things and helps me let the small things go. in the moment, it’s easy for me to get distressed about a little lost sleep, a disgruntled email or a missed blog post – but in a year from now – those things probably won’t really matter!

doing something each day with things that my future self will thank me for, means that each day, i’ll accomplish something with real meaning. that i’ll be working towards important goals and getting things done. that i’ll be making a difference in my life and the lives around me, and work towards perhaps even leaving a small legacy behind me.

i want to be remembered for the important things in life. for doing things with meaning and for making a difference. for always putting my family first and raising my children with integrity, strength and a heart for the Lord.

for instance, taking an extra 15 minutes of snuggle time with bear each day is something that i will always thank myself for. reading books to him, teaching him how to be creative and exploring the outdoors with him. soaking up these sweet moments with him is the most important thing in my life right now and i’ll cherish them forever!

i will also always thank myself for pouring extra energy into my art and business. for working really hard to to be the best artist that i can be and pushing myself to try new things and explore different ways of doing things. i am constantly learning new ways to design, and i love the ever-evolving nature of this industry. it allows me to follow my whims and try new things all the time!

i will always thank myself for being intentional in my marriage and putting my husband first. this is a once-in-a-lifetime kind of love and i will never take it for granted. letting him know just how much i love him and appreciate him will help me always keep our marriage on a pedestal.

TODAY, i will hold bear a little closer, start working on a new portfolio and send david an out-of-the-blue thank you text. it’s the small things, right?!

what will YOU do today that you’re future self will thank you for?

double exposure

diani double exposure app (1)

i’ve been having way too much fun with the new (to me) diani double exposure app (discovered via the darling tree). combine my love for photos, instagram and baby bear and we’ve got trouble!

with that, i’m signing off for the weekend! try not to waste all your time this weekend playing with double exposures. :) we’re hosting a spring training camp at our house for my husband’s cycling team, so i’ll be taking care of (i.e. cooking for) a bunch of boys this weekend. it’s always fun! see you back here on monday! love, bonnie

some things take time

some things take time

i’ve had my eyes on this photograph by salva lópez for a while now. i love the black and white photo,  off-white paper and gold stamped typography, not to mention the quote itself.

some things just take time, you know? it’s easy for me to get discouraged when dreams and goals are moving slowly, but most good things take a lot of hard work and time. when i’m feeling overwhelmed with how long something is taking, i ususally decide to just do one small thing each day in the direction of my dream or goal. then, progress is made bit by bit and things seem to start happening quicker.

my one thing today is to cut up some bundles of sweet as honey to send out to makers and sewers of all sorts.

what is your one thing today?

moxie glass calligraphy pen (3)

last week i got the sweetest gift from my mom. we’ve been talking a lot lately about calligraphy and hand lettering, and before i knew i had a pretty little package on my doorstep! a beautiful glass calligraphy pen with writing ink and some pretty pencils from moxie. she knows me so well!

the grooves in the glass pen hold ink effortlessly- all you do is dip the entire point into your favorite writing ink and start scrawling!

the ink goes on nice and smooth and the pen is incredibly comfortable to hold. i was also surprised how long each dip in the ink lasts- i wrote ‘going home to roost’ and still had plenty of ink to spare.

she also sent over some of the prettiest pencils i’ve ever seen. made from 100% recycled paper, they feel soft to the touch and write beautifully! they’re almost too pretty to use. :)

i adore this sweet packaging concept that belinda shih designed. it’s only for a hypothetical tea company, but i hope it becomes a reality, because i can taste it already! belinda says that the design is focused on the concept of afternoon tea – a time to unwind, re-energize, and relax after a long day of work. the package is therefore minimalist, calm in color and simple in shape, with a hint of the soothing elegance of steam swirls and tea drops. i think it’s brilliantly beautiful.
