lately, i’ve been researching painted floors and thought i would share with you a few that i have particularly fell in love with. as we house hunt and see old wooden floors throughout many of the homes, i can’t help but think about stenciling on them, even if in just one small room like the laundry area. my grandmother painted her wood floors a beautiful white and it brings such a clean, sweet, country feel to her little cottage. if you’re interested in learning more about how to go about painting wood floors, be sure to check out this tutorial by elle decor as well as this one over on apartment therapy.

when i saw this boot tray (discovered via ez pudewa), i immediately glanced over at our muddy boots and realized this is one winter essential we’ve been missing out on. though the one above is no longer available, i decided to include it anyways, since you all are a crowd of talented diy-ers. i think you could pretty easily salvage an old metal crate and add some wheels to it to use as a boot tray! but don’t worry, if that’s not your style here are some others to choose from:

i’m pretty sure the makers over at urban + forest designed everything in their shop with me in mind. i’ve always loved the use of birch in home decor- it can give any space a very clean, modern and rustic look all at the same time. i’m really fond of the irregular shapes in the woodcuts and soft shades of white and grey they have. head on over to urban + forest to see more.

this year, husband and i are determined to settle into a permanent homestead. we’re exhausted from hopping around the country and moving on average once a year (whew!), so this is our year. brevard will be our permanent  so it’s time to stop renting and start homesteading! lucky for us, my sister-in-law just married an incredibly talented leed certified contractor. woohoo! our options are simple: purchase and renovate or build from scratch.

though we haven’t made up our minds completely on which direction we’ll go, we can’t stop bookmarking the things we love, looking at house plans and browsing real estate. though we would need to reduce it’s size a bit, this modern farmhouse in chester, sc definitely tickles our fancy (that means, we love it!). designed by architect ken pursley, it’s the perfect mix of modern and farm. constructed to allow as much sunlight in as possible, it’s in my book absolutely perfect.

i’ve been enthralled this season by the decor trend of tabletop trees. often small, lopsided and a little scraggly, i love the unique feeling of sweetness they have. some are fully decorated, some look as though they’ve had lights thrown on them, and others are left totally natural and bare. they’re perfect for small spaces, budget decorating or anyone who wants to add a twist to the traditional tree. though i already have my tree for the season, i’m tempted to go get a little guy to put across the room! i think they would even be nice to leave up year round (sans the ornaments).

a new home, a new look

it’s always fun to start with a blank slate. with our recent move to a new home, i’ve been so excited to start deciding which direction i’ll be taking the new digs. this is just a little inspiration board i’ve been building over on pinterest, and hope to acquire a few of these lovelies over the next few months. my vision is to use a lot of neutral, solid colors (mainly white) and mix and match farmhouse simplicity with rustic cabin charm. can’t wait to start sharing some tidbits with you! for now though, i’m off to work on all these boxes..
