bonnie forkner fall series

happy monday, lovelies!  i did another trail race this weekend, and the scenery was so pretty i couldn’t help but share it with you!  isn’t this view breath taking? actually, i didn’t have enough breath in me for the view to take, but if i did- it would have.  the weather was perfect- 38 degrees, sunny and not a single breeze.  too cold to stand around in, but just right to be working hard in.  i was so happy to have two good friends running it as well, and we all came back to my place for a brunch of pumpkin waffles and apple cider afterwards (i was thinking about those waffles the whole time i was running!).  the race was very hilly and just over 7 miles, and i finished in 1:28:50- slow but steady i go! and to recover? a massage this afternoon followed by a cup of tea with a good friend should do the trick.

weekend

good morning lovelies! how was your weekend? mine was insane busy but beautiful. every morning was foggy with dew that spread over everything like a blanket in the grass on a warm summer day.  we were busy having a yardsale friday and saturday and it was thankfully, worth the hassle! i’m no yardsaling pro so i was exhausted from being haggled and helping people all day, but overall it was fun (and totally worth it).  those yardsalers can be ruthless!  yesterday was spent with family for brunch, a hike and then a yummy dinner.  we are trying to soak up all the quality time we can get before we move to colorado springs! today is day one (of 8) of packing up the house.

monday goals:

  • 1) pack up guest room and start on the office
  • 2) make toaster a vet appointment
  • 3) order any fabric supplies i need to take with me
  • 4) narrow down housing options for colorado springs and contact them
  • 5) start going through the clothes i want need to take and separate them

wish me luck! love, bonnie

today dear ones, i have big news for you..

flying the coop

{cotton washclothes, robin’s egg necklace, silver pillow necklace, beaded bracelet, peacock feather, crocheted hat}

what do all these things have in common? they are handmade right in colorado springs, co.

flying the coop

{ journey, textile art, colorado and utah, soar with your own wings, the path we take, birdcage necklace}

what do all these things have in common? they all have to do with flying the coop.

{colorado adventure}

so what does that mean? we’re moving to colorado!!

say what? during our trip to colorado springs, my dear david met with cycling company, carmichael training systems.  they called last week and offered him a full time job! cycling is his passion and to be a coach has been a long life dream for him, so there’s no way we could turn it down.  though it’s so very sad to leave friends and family, i feel so blessed that my job is mobile! i can keep right on blogging and etsying anywhere we go, an that’s exciting!  we’ll be living in colorado springs for 7 months (until next april) and then will be relocating to santa ynez, california to help them open a new facility (deep breathing).  having only ever lived in north carolina, you can imagine what this feels like! excited, nervous, sad, happy, thrilled, anxious.. that about sums it up.

even more nerve racking exciting, is that he starts on october 1st.  yes, october first! sooo, we’ll be massively busy packing up our house and having yard sales over the next few weekends.  anyone looking to buy a home? i know a great one!

so what does this mean for ghtr? well first off, things may be a little light around blogland over the next 3 weeks.  we’ll be settled and resume normal scheduling by monday, october 4th, i promise!  as you can imagine, i’ll be having a little less yard and will be pawning off giving my hens to friends and family.  the good news is, that all of you city slickers and apartment livers may have a little more in common with ghtr now! you know i’ll still be roosting wherever i am though, so still expect recipes, gardening posts and general ‘simple living’ goodness.  that will never change! so i hope you’ll buckle up and join the ride, let’s see what the world has in store for us!

love, bonnie

dear colorado springs,

we so enjoyed our visit.  thank you for having such beautiful weather!  our mornings were crisp and our afternoons were perfectly sunny.  our evenings were met with a gentle breeze just perfect for a light sweater. we walked and walked and though our feet got tired your scenery rejuvenated us.  our meals were delicious and the local shops made our visit so fun.  thank you for having no bugs (north carolina, are you listening?), i so appreciated not receiving a single mosquito bite during our visit!  your mountains are glorious and your skies are vast.  though this visit was short, we hope to be back soon. bye bye!
