i’m not sure if it’s just that time of year, or if i’m ready for a change from my previous white and beige era, but i’ve begun to fall in love with darker decor.  there’s something about winter hibernation, early darkness and warm drinks that go along with comfortable accents of black and cozy dark walls. in our new place, i am splashing about more bright colors than usual (you’ll see them soon, i promise!), but i am still drawn to dark accents.  the mere fact that we’re not allowed to paint our stark white walls is probably making me long for a can of black paint even more- but that will just be my design challenge- furniture, rugs and art it is!

friday’s fall fashion

September 3, 2010

even though it’s still summer, every time september rolls around i start thinking about fall.  maybe it’s the beginning of crisp mornings or the wearing of light sweaters at night.  or maybe it’s the planting for fall harvests.  either way i all the sudden crave leafy decor and autumn colors of green, orange, yellow and red.  here are some handmade finds that get my in the spirit of september!

fall fashion

row 1: instant karma dress, the godfather, vintage golden bow stud heels

row 2: pereira foldable handbag, the leaf, odette leaf ring

row 3: calla green bow pillow, leaf wall ware, handmade marigold flats

row 4: knitted orange handbag, gillian hat

have a beautiful weekend! love, bonnie

flea market find

during our travels last weekend, i was able to make it to one of my favorite spots, the raleigh flea market! that’s where i came across this beaut- and though i wasn’t sure what my plans were for her- i knew she had to be mine!

flea market find

the gal i bought it from (for $10!) said it used to be the top to an old tobacco smoker(?).  do you know anything about it?  at first my plan was to clean it up and paint it, but once i set it in my living room i think i’ve decided stick with the patina charm for now.  what do you think?

zinnia flowers

did you notice all my pretty pretty flowers? last week, i was also showered with some of the most beautiful birthday flowers from friends!  pretty yellow day lilies and pink and orange zinnias are making my house feel so bright and joyful right now.

zinnia flowers

aren’t these stunning? they are from my dear friend callie’s yard (talk about a green thumb).  i think the zinnia might just be my new favorite flower!

raised in sweden now living in san francisco, ulrica wihlborg’s photography captivates timeless design with thoughtful scandinavian influence.  i love the clean lines and summer feel in these shots, and how she pairs photos to take the meaning to a deeper place.  from outdoor living to summer cooking and succulents to gardening- her work fits right in to some of the things i love most.

hi lovelies!  if not for his incredible decor sense, then for his good lucks- i’m sure you all know who the ever inspiring nate berkus is.  today i’m excited to be joining over ninety other bloggers to celebrate the first ever nate day, organized by the mogg blogg girls!  nate’s moving on from frequenting the oprah show and is debuting his very own nate berkus show on september 13th, 2010 on nbc, wahoo!

nate berkus

our last home provided us with only about 550 square feet living space.  when i saw nate berkus’s new york apartment makeover, it set the entire tone for our little space.  i used so much of his advice and it helped turn our tiny apartment into an amazing space to live in!

my favorite nate berkus advice on small spaces:

- if you have a small space, painting everything white from floor to ceiling will make it look larger, by removing the visual boundaries

- turning a closest into an office is a great space saver

- go up with the furniture to save space and create visual appeal in a tight space

- using glass or acrylic furniture will help the space look larger

- don’t be afraid to use large artwork in a small space

what’s your favorite nate advice? happy nate day!

yvonne’s decor tour

May 21, 2010

Posted by in home decor

hello darlings!  i realized the other day how long it had been seen we had talked about home decor, and suddenly missed it!  i’ll try to share more roosts with you from now on. :)  today’s comes from a lovely graphic designer, yvonne huynh.

doesn’t her home provide a breath of fresh air?  i love the color pallet- muted and natural, with pops of color.  and what gorgeous pillows she has on her couch!  her little pup makes me smile too, the perfect accessory for her home.

you can see all of yvonne’s home in her flickr album, and even more at her beautiful blog where she shares yummy recipes and more design!

p.s. big announcement coming later today!

hillary bird

hillary bird is one of the most darling shops i’ve come across in a long time!  her illustrations show her passions for nature and the arts, and her new moth prints are so pretty and unique.  she mixes color and pattern in a way that is so unexpected and fun, i can’t visit her shop without a smile breaking across my face.
