winged is now available!

July 31, 2014

winged by bonnie christine (11)

today is a happy day. my new fabric collection winged for art gallery fabrics is arriving today in stores everywhere! for this post, i want to share with you more about the collection and my inspirations behind it. tomorrow i’ll be sharing with you the newly released lookbook and several projects made with the collection. fun FUN fun fun fun!

forever and ever i have always noticed the very first butterfly each spring. it has been one of the sweetest sightings for me each year. it means a new season is upon us, warmer weather is on it’s way and fresh blooms will be emerging from the ground. it also evokes this feeling within me of inspiration- like all things are possible. the butterfly’s journey from caterpillar to butterfly is one that i’ll never stop marveling at.

this feeling of spreading one’s great wings and soaring is one that connects with me deeply. a long time ago i decided that i would pursue my dreams no matter what. i would make great sacrifices, journey into the unknown put my heart and soul on the line to live my creative dream.

that is what winged is about. spreading your wings and flying into the unknown.

wingspan melon | flyaway petalums vert

mimicry beryl | bird’s peck jade

design note: mimicry was created via a happy accident. by enlarging up all the bits and pieces that make up the butterfly’s wings, mimicry was born. it turned out to be one of my favorite prints!

aves chatter shine | plumage apricot

design note: while i was sitting at my desk one day a flock of birds landed in a nearby tree. i grabbed my camera, ran outside and started taking pictures up in the sky. i’m sure i looked like a barefoot lunatic! this is how aves chatter was created. each bird represents an actual bird i saw behind my camera.

nesting blooms cool | frilly flutters creme

metamorphosis quartz | feathered flight acorn

design notes: metamorphosis is my take on the beautiful butterfly cocoon. hanging from a branch these layers will soon fade away and a butterfly’s wings will unwrap and start to fly!

wingspan fig | flyaway petalums sky

design note: i was nervous to include this dark plum color on wingspan. however, i have deeply fallen in love with the figgy color! that’s just to say that taking risks sometimes pays off.

mimicry hazel | bird’s peck dahlia

nesting blooms warm | frilly flutters mist

design note: these nesting blooms were inspired by a real flower i photographed while living in california. i love how the nest together- as though they were drifting down a lazy river.

metamorphosis coral | feathered flight sunken

wall of fabric

wall of fabric! (1)

as our home starts to come together, i’m excited to share more and more of it with you. spring fever has hit and i’ve been checking off several projects i’ve been thinking about for a long time. this one may be my favorite. :)

for every fabric collection i design, i’m over-the-moon-excited to receive a bolt of each piece. seriously, when i get this package in the mail i leap for joy! i use this fabric for marketing, giveaways, blog hops, sample sewing and of course a few personal projects as well! it also leaves me with bundles of bolts, and along with it, a bit of a storage dilemma.

a wall of fabric! (3)

storage dilemma solved! i’ve been staring at this blank wall behind my workspace for a year. the steps lead up to my sewing room, so when the ideas struck to hang my fabric i couldn’t resist! now it doubles at artwork and doesn’t take up any floor space in my tiny sewing room.

i know there are probably not very many of you who have bolts and bolts of fabric like this, but you could always roll your fabric around a tube to store it in the same way. to hang them, i drilled holes in the bottom of 1.5″ wooden round discs (like this) and strung twine up through the center of the tube (a knot in the bottom holds the disc in place). i then used super hooks to hang them- those things are amazing!

also shown here are my favorite new hexagon shelves and some faux white taxidermy.

announcing winged!

May 6, 2014

winged fabric collection by bonnie christine

it’s here it’s here! i’m thrilled to announce my brand new fabric collection with art gallery fabrics called winged. i’ve been so anxious to share it with you!

ever since i was a young girl, i’ve always delighted in seeing the first butterfly of each spring season. it’s such a special moment to me. it represents new life, change, a new season, warmth, possibilities. winged was inspired by this first spring sighting and the delights of waking up to the birds chirping outside my window. it represents a season’s fresh beginnings and the dawn of a new day.

i also believe that if we have enough courage to spread our wings, we can fulfill our biggest dreams. here’s to letting all our imaginations fly free!

p.s. i’ll be debuting winged at the international quilt market in pittsburgh may 16th-18th. winged will begin shipping in june. check your local quilt shop for availability or this link for online shops. :)

sweet as honey grand giveaway! (4)

hello, lovelies! i’m so excited to personally offer you a grand giveaway today! i’ve bundled up a big stack of my latest fabric collection, sweet as honey, and i’m ready to send it to one of you creative ladies (or gents!). enter to win 1 yard of each piece of sweet as honey in your choice of colorways (see below). that’s 10 yards total- valued at over $120!

before we get to the fun part, i wanted to share with you a little about the inspiration behind the collection. i happily designed sweet as honey while we were living in this sunny cottage on the central coast of california (we’re now snuggled up in the mountains of north carolina!). the days were always sunny and the weather was always perfect. in fact, it was like a little slice of heaven! i gardened year round and always had fresh flowers ready to pick. i spent most of my time outdoors, soaking up nature in all it’s glory. our tiny town also just happened to have the sweetest honey i’ve ever tasted in my life. i purchased it from a local farmer and could eat it by the spoonfulls! in fact, i love it so much that i still have my friends mail me a jar every now and again. it rarely rained, but when it did i soaked up every drop. birds could be seen flying over the vineyard in front of our cottage at any given moment. it was the perfect place to dream up this fabric line and i’m so happy to share it with you. i hope it brings a little sunshine to home!
