downloadble art by lost in reverie

hi everyone! in the spirit of her last download for us, ‘share your work‘, heidi ahmed has generously offered to share with us two of her beautiful downloadable art prints. of course, i instantly said ‘YES’, she’s one talented gal!

for these prints, heidi has taken two of her favorite quotes from my creativelive course on surface pattern design and illustrated them using her favorite medium: dinosaurs! i’m so in love with the results. i mean, who doesn’t love a little prehistoric principe?!

to download: click here (or on the image above) to download the printable PDFs.

please join me in thanking heidi for her generosity and lovely art!

Heidi Ahmed is an artist working in Columbus, Ohio. She specializes in watercolor illustration & design. You can see more of her work on Lost in Reverie and visit her shop here.

keyboard shortcuts download

September 9, 2014

keyboard shortcuts // bonnie christine

hello, loves! one of the things i love most about working in adobe illustrator are the keyboard shortcuts i use. illustrator comes with 100s of keyboard shortcuts installed (maybe 1000s?), but i only use a handful of them for my day to day work. getting to know the program with keyboard shortcuts is a great way to speed up your work and jump from one tool and technique to the next.

to help make learning them a little easier, i’ve illustrated a keyboard shortcut guide for you! these are the keyboard shortcuts that i personally use in my daily illustrator work to design blog posts, illustrations and surface pattern designs. print it out and keep it near your workspace to learn them in no time!

to download // print: click on the image above to download the PDF version. print on heavy card stock (my favorite is epson premium presentation paper)

tips*

- if some of these don’t work for you, be sure to set illustrator’s keyboard shortcuts back to ‘default’ (edit >> keyboard shortcuts >> set >> illustrator defaults).

- if mac’s spotlight comes up when you try to zoom out using opt+cmd+spacebar, deselect spotlight finder in your mac’s keyboard shortcut settings (system preferences >> keyboard >> shortcuts >> spotlight >> deselect ‘show spotlight window’)

alation free quilt pattern by bonnie christine (1)

today i get to share with you one of my all time favorite quilts. it’s called alation which means ‘the state of being winged’, which goes perfectly with my new fabric collection, winged for art gallery fabrics!

click here to download the free quilt pattern!

note: we’re working on kitting this quilt with pre-cut squares. stay tuned!

alation free quilt pattern by bonnie christine (6)

i had SO MUCH FUN designing this quilt. i wanted something feminine, unique and whimsical and i’m so happy with the outcome! my mom, maxie makes, and i collaborate on all of our patterns- i design and illustrate, and she sews. so, this is her beautiful work!

to construct the quilt, we used fusible grid interfacing (we recommend using bosal’s 2.5″ fusible interfacing) which makes this go together quickly and easily! just place your squares on the grid and iron them in place. then, all you have to do is zip up and down to secure your seams. we didn’t use a single pin. easy peasy!

quick note: i stumbled across this giant pom pom trim at a local thrift store a few months ago (don’t hate me!). it was pretty much the best day ever.

alation - free quilt pattern!

you can choose to make the quilt in either the northern migration colorway or the southern migration colorway (instructions included for both). i had a hard time deciding, but we chose to make it in the northern migration. i think this colorway is so soft and dreamy!

you can find winged by checking your local quilt or fabric shop, at a stitch in time or by checking these online stores.

finally, share your winged projects using the official hashtag #wingedfabric

free sewing patterns from bonnie christine

i’m excited to share a free sewing pattern i made for you today! have you ever used mug rug? i use one every day! it’s one of those things that you don’t think you need until you finally have one and then you think, ‘how did i ever live without this?!’. i keep mine right next to my workspace and that’s where my coffee and tea lives every day. not only does it have it’s very own space on my desk, but it also gives my mug a silent landing spot. since bear is usually napping nearby, this is so helpful! i’ve too many times woke him by slamming my mug down on the table. not any more!

printable tea tags

February 12, 2014

printable tea tags

hey, all my little sweet potatoes! today i’m sharing a set of printable tea tags i made for world label – just in time for valentine’s day (or any love filled day)! you can find david and i sipping tea together on most any given day, so i’m excited to surprise him with a few of these myself. they are simple to print, cut out and attach (see below). with several tags that would work for a sweetheart, friend or family member – i hope you’ll enjoy using them!

printable tea tags

instructions for the tea tags: head on over to world label to download the tea tags. print on full page white sticker paper and cut out along the faint grey lines. remove the backing and place the string from a tea bag in the middle of one side. fold in half. optional: for a professional look- use a hole punch to cut out notches at each top end, or scissors to bevel each corner.
