14 goals for 2014

today i want to talk about goals. i’m actually not a huge fan of ‘new year’s resolutions’, but there is something about the start of a new year that makes me reflect and inspires me to plan. it’s like having a new start, and placing a timeline on goals and dreams that i have can really be motivating.

i believe there’s something special about proclaiming your goals. putting them on paper and saying them out loud suddenly makes me feel more accountable to them. so above is my own list of goals for 2014 (you can see last year’s here). in case they’re hard to read, i’ll list them below as well. here’s to accomplishing LOTS in the new year!

focus on design | submit my work portfolio more frequently | read through the bible | start writing a book with my mom | redesign going home to roost | finish decorating my home room by room | garden | learn to sew garments | teach a skillshare class | do a little yoga every day | be the best mom/wife i can be | run a little. hike a little | stargaze | learn photoshop

if you feel comfortable sharing some of your own goals, we would love to here them! proclaim your goals publicly and watch them get accomplished- we can all help hold each other accountable! i’ll meet you in the comments area.

p.s. this goal worksheet is a little printable i made for the roost tribe. come join the fun!

the art of action

February 23, 2011

do you have a dream? i know you do. we all do. i have some so big that i’ve never even shared them with you. dreams can be scary, right? what if i can’t do it? what will people think? how do i even get started?

that’s where the art of action comes in.

if you’ve followed tara gentile and scoutie girl for very long, you know she’s a master of action. she takes her dreams and turns them into realities. quickly!

the art of action

after reading so many of your stories from the do what you love giveaway, i can tell so many of us are struggling to get started on our big dreams. you’ve been laid off from work, don’t like your job, or are just too tired from it when you get home to even think about your dreams.

there’s an art to action, and a way to accomplish your goals, one step at a time. that’s exactly what tara’s goals are for the art of action. it’s an e-course where you’ll learn step by step how to act on you big dreams and goals in life, and put them into action.

“Your big dream is your art. Your idea, a brushstroke on canvas. Together, we will set up your easel, get out your paints, ready your brushes, and begin.” – Tara Gentile

the art of action

it’s all about execution. the art of action will help you put what you learn into practice. it will help you define your goals, finalize your concepts, and move forward.

it will help bring your dreams into reality.

the art of action tara gentile visit the art of action to learn more, get inspired and register today. spots are limited!

i’ll see you in class!

xo, bonnie

north carolina white christmas

my parent’s front yard, christmas day 2010

what is it about a new year that gets you thinking about changes? i like to think that my eagerness to make changes is not because of the resolutions hype, but because it’s only natural to feel like it’s a new beginning. a fresh slate. a natural time to reflect and what worked in the previous year, and what didn’t. so naturally, i’ve been giving much thought to this next year, the goals that i have and things that i want to do differently. i read just yesterday that if you fail to plan you plan to fail. so alas, i’m planning! there are several things i’ve been reflecting upon, here are just a few.

goals for 2011:

- get focused. because i find myself doing so many things that don’t directly pertain to my big picture. it’s time to dive head first into the dreams that i have, and see if i can accomplish them.

- start saying no. at least a bit more frequently to the things that consume my time but don’t feed my goals.  this will only be a way to feed and support my goal #1.

- get on top of our finances. make a plan and name every dollar before the month begins (as i’m ultra-motivated by my latest read, total money makeover).

- put God first. in my time, my day, our finances, and in every way.

- start painting more.

- learn adobe illustrator. just learn it, bonnie!

- be better at communication. it seems now that all of my dear friends are spread out across the states, from boston to bend. it’s my number one goal to stay on top of being there for each of them and growing our relationships.

- get my read on. that’s right, start going through the stack of books i’ve collected that i want to read.

and here are some BIG events coming up in 2011!

- we’ll be moving to santa ynez, california with my husband’s job come march/april!

- david will be doing an iron man on may 9th in st. george utah (that’s my crazy amazing husband)!

- we hope (finger’s crossed) to get another doggie, so toaster has a friend. we have our sights set on getting a belgian tervuren, as that was my first dog!

now it’s your turn!

what are your goals for 2011? any big events coming up?

tuesday goals

tuesday goals

{breaking through}

well, mission moving to colorado day 1 proved pretty productive! the hub accomplished an amazing amount of work- go david! i on the other hand had a case of the girls and terrible back ache so wasn’t doing much of the heavy lifting. sifting through papers, folding laundry, packing the books and being the general organizer was more my job. i’m feeling better already today so i should be able to do a little more lifting!  our house is pretty much totally disheveled, so i only wish you could see where i’m sitting right now.  piles everywhere!

tuesday goals:

- finish packing up the guest room and office

- make dinner reservations to go out with our families tonight

- get started (and maybe finish?) packing up the sewing room

- make toaster a grooming appointment (poor beeeebie)

- be more careful with my back

- attempt to clean as i’m packing so the house remains sane!

i can’t even tell you how many blessings we’ve had throughout this entire process.  we even got news yesterday that our dear friends bekah and zach are going to be renting our house!  what a huge relief. through prayer, patience and trust, God has been an amazing provider throughout each and every detail.  things have come together that we couldn’t even foresee needed to in order for this move to take place!  i can even see how certain things that happened a year ago were completely necessary for this to take place in our lives.  how little did we know!  we are so thankful. :) now, back to work!

how was your weekend?

September 20, 2010

weekend

good morning lovelies! how was your weekend? mine was insane busy but beautiful. every morning was foggy with dew that spread over everything like a blanket in the grass on a warm summer day.  we were busy having a yardsale friday and saturday and it was thankfully, worth the hassle! i’m no yardsaling pro so i was exhausted from being haggled and helping people all day, but overall it was fun (and totally worth it).  those yardsalers can be ruthless!  yesterday was spent with family for brunch, a hike and then a yummy dinner.  we are trying to soak up all the quality time we can get before we move to colorado springs! today is day one (of 8) of packing up the house.

monday goals:

  • 1) pack up guest room and start on the office
  • 2) make toaster a vet appointment
  • 3) order any fabric supplies i need to take with me
  • 4) narrow down housing options for colorado springs and contact them
  • 5) start going through the clothes i want need to take and separate them

wish me luck! love, bonnie
