today i’ve been oohing and ahhing over valerie’s chalk art at lily & val. valerie first hand draws in chalk, then meticulously paints over them using a technique that preserves the realistic look of chalk with the durability of acrylic paint. the result looks like an authentic chalk masterpiece, but won’t ever rub off! i think these would make great christmas gifts, or add the perfect touch to your holiday decor. visit her shop  or website for originals, digital and prints.

the first my mom said when i told her i was going to be a vegetarian was, ‘what are you going to eat at thanksgiving?!’ well that was some 6 years ago and we’ve come a long way! though turkey is a tradition each year, it seems that more and more vegetarians and vegans alike are coming to the table to have a turkeyless thanksgiving. no matter where you are on the scale: from being interested in having a veggie side – to expecting a vegetarian guest – to being a vegan yourself, below is something for everyone!

vegan thanksgiving recipes

i wanted to share with you a few vegetarian/vegan recipes and articles relating to thanksgiving, and invite you to share your recipes and thought as well!

1. vegetable wellington (i made this last week, and it is now my most favorite recipe!)
2. apple sage ‘sausage’ chestnut stuffing
3. candied lime sweet potatoes
4. soy braised carrots
5. coconut butternut squash soup
6. seitan piccata

other yummy and delightful resources:

– find a local, sustainable turkey - still want a turkey? find out how you can find a healthy and sustainable one here!
a thanksgiving feast, no turkey’s allowed – an article by the ny times
ny times vegetarian thanksgiving (tons of recipes!)
vegan & vegetarian thanksgiving dinner recipes – a great source for recipes and menu ideas
celebrate a vegan holiday – awesome recipes (like sage & pumpkin seed encrusted seitan with roasted garlic-pumpkin sauce!)
vegetarian thanksgiving recipes – you guessed it, more amazing recipes!

holiday gift wrap round up

i’m already getting all jittery over christmas time, and i’m so excited to start gift shopping and getting ready for the holidays. each year i try to do something different with my wrapping paper. you know, something that’s signature. something that doesn’t even need to have a ‘from: bonnie’ sticker on it, ’cause they just know it’s from me! one year it was newspaper (embellished, of course!), another year i attached big glittery letters that represented the recipients first name. i haven’t quite decided on what i’ll do this year yet, but i’m either going to buy some beautiful handmade paper or do something diy style (see some ideas at the bottom of this post!). what about you?

paperless post yup, it’s that time of the year again- time to send out invitations, christmas cards and thank you’s! you might remember how much i love this company, as paperless post makes sending cards easier, cheaper and greener. whether you’re hosting a traditional dinner with family or a friendsgiving get-together, their custom, personalized invitations and announcements have the same thought and care as previous generations. best of all, you can start the holidays being environmentally-conscious!

simple holiday decor

pine cones

i love the simple style of these strung pine cones by bebehblog (discovered via birch + bird). our place is small, so i will no doubt be looking for simple solutions to holiday decor this year (side note- i still can’t believe that i’m even thinking about the holidays already!). this looks like one of the first projects i’ll be doing, especially since we have several pine trees by our house!

do you have any holiday projects planned?
