fox on the run features the most lovely landscapes! i am so fond of the vintage feel, serene colors and slightly weathered look that these have. can’t you just feel yourself roaming the fields of a tuscan pasture or passing through the grapvines of a vineyard in italy? these pictures take me right there, i can even feel the warm sun on my back and the slight breeze in my hair. ahhh.

soon to be beach bum

soon, i will live both by the sea and in the mountains. the idea to me is a little overwhelming, as i’ve always been several hours away from the water. i consider myself a mountain girl. i like the trails, the scenery and ever-flowing rivers. the idea that i could have all that plus sandy beaches, rolling waves,  and year round sunny weather has never occurred to me. needless to say, i’ve begun to wrap my brain around it and cannot wait to experience it. the problem? well, i’ve got all the hippie mountain clothes i need, but now i need to start gathering easy-beach, cottage-by-the-sea, sunny-weather items. for starters, i like these suits above. what do you think? i also need to find a good romper.. (any advice?)

fig. 1: undrest diagonal suit (tied for 2nd fav?)
fig. 2: sophia top (maybe my favorite)
fig. 3: floral rush
fig. 4: avellanas suit
fig. 5: volcum striped
fig. 6: modern triangle bikini (tied for 2nd fav?)
fig. 7: sailor streamed bikini
fig. 8: plunging halter maillot

pike's peak colorado springs

this week i’m so excited to have my sister and dear friend in town for a visit. they are our first official visitors since the big move! to really show them the views of colorado, we took a cog to the top of pike’s peak. it’s the highest cog in the world and the views are absolutely stunning!

i love looking at the tree line on this mountain, it makes for such a pretty cap on the top.

the day was so clear and the sky was such a brilliant blue, it was the perfect conditions to see way off in the distance. these snow capped mountains are over 100 miles away!

even though the high in colorado springs was 60°F yesterday, on the top of pike’s peak it was 4°F  with winds blowing up to 70 mph! i’ve never experienced such conditions! the wind was so strong that we could fall into backwards and not fall down.  there was also a sweet little cafe on top where we enjoyed some warm hot chocolate and some chili.

and here’s the little red train we traveled on!

we’re going to be driving home to north carolina this weekend for thanksgiving, so i’ll be signing off until monday. i hope each of you have a wonderful weekend and i hope to see you back here next week! love, bonnie

the last of the fall series

bonnie forkner fall series

happy monday, lovelies!  i did another trail race this weekend, and the scenery was so pretty i couldn’t help but share it with you!  isn’t this view breath taking? actually, i didn’t have enough breath in me for the view to take, but if i did- it would have.  the weather was perfect- 38 degrees, sunny and not a single breeze.  too cold to stand around in, but just right to be working hard in.  i was so happy to have two good friends running it as well, and we all came back to my place for a brunch of pumpkin waffles and apple cider afterwards (i was thinking about those waffles the whole time i was running!).  the race was very hilly and just over 7 miles, and i finished in 1:28:50- slow but steady i go! and to recover? a massage this afternoon followed by a cup of tea with a good friend should do the trick.

welcome to colorado!

colorado springs

so as most of you know, the hub and i packed up our belongings and relocated to colorado springs last week!  we hopped in the car last monday and started our journey, arriving to Colorado springs some 28 hours later on tuesday night (whew!).

colorado springs

this is a windmill farm we passed somewhere along the road in kansas, isn’t it pretty?  it went on for miles and miles and if you’ve never seen one- this picture doesn’t do it justice.  they are gigantic!

wednesday and thursday were spent house hunting, and let me tell you- it’s a funny feeling to be homeless!  we looked at about 25 places and finally narrowed them down to two.  by thursday afternoon, we were unloading boxes and attempting to carry our mattress and chest of drawers up two flights of stairs.

colorado springs

our new place is quaint and cozy, a newer duplex build. the only ugly interesting part is that it has maroonish (maybe pink?) berber carpet.  yup- you heard me!  but with lots of rugs and a little sense of humor, we’re making it our own.  for no longer than we’re going to be here, i’m sure i can make it work! (right…?)

colorado springs

so apparently, colorado has the best thrift stores. ever.  i went to 5 in one day and bulked up on some sweet finds!  most of them are going to be projects, so as i get the house put together and my paint brushes out, i’m looking forward to sharing with you one project after another.

colorado springs

our house is on the west side of the city, near the historic downtown and a quaint town called manitou springs.  with coffee shops, yoga studios and mom and pop restaurants all in walking distance, i’m starting to really appreciate the city for it’s history the local atmosphere.  we even have one of colorado’s best farmers markets right around the corner!

colorado springs

so this week will be spent getting the house in order, and hopefully starting some furniture reno projects.  there is much yet to discover so i’m sure i’ll be sharing my finds with you along the way.

colorado springs

as for now, i’m off to get organized!  i’ll see you tomorrow as we get back to some handmade goodness, xoxo! bonnie

dear colorado springs,

we so enjoyed our visit.  thank you for having such beautiful weather!  our mornings were crisp and our afternoons were perfectly sunny.  our evenings were met with a gentle breeze just perfect for a light sweater. we walked and walked and though our feet got tired your scenery rejuvenated us.  our meals were delicious and the local shops made our visit so fun.  thank you for having no bugs (north carolina, are you listening?), i so appreciated not receiving a single mosquito bite during our visit!  your mountains are glorious and your skies are vast.  though this visit was short, we hope to be back soon. bye bye!
