wild pulpwild pulp

the perfect mixture of flora and fauna. i just love these little guys from wild pulp! all from a series called ‘north american animals in bark’, owen smith photographs the barks of specific tree species and then looks for the animals spirit reflected in the world of flora that surrounds them. i love that. :) the perfect inspiration for this project? john muir’s quote, “when we tug at a single thing in nature, we find it attached to the rest of the world.”

our yosemite trip!

December 9, 2011

happy friday, friends! i’ve finally gone through our 900 and some pictures from our yosemite trip, and wanted to share with you just a few of them today.

our trip was spectacular. we couldn’t have asked for better weather and more beautiful surroundings. during the 4 days we were there, we hiked about 40 miles and climbed an accumulative 15,000 feet (i think i just got my legs back!). for david and i, there’s just something about being in the back country. it makes us feel alive and it draws us back to the basics.

my love for today are these sweet block prints from red tile studio. nature has always been my biggest inspiration, and i love seeing the little bits and pieces of it brought to life in these paintings. i always love to see an artist’s inspiration, and to photograph the finished piece with a found treasure from nature is genius. head on over to their shop to see more, or swing by their facebook page to keep in touch.

i guess i’m in the mood for birds today (that’s no surprise)! above is the beautiful work of natasha newton and i love how she takes her paintbrush off paper and onto other mediums (i especially love these rocks). inspired by the love of birds, nature and astronomy, natasha encourages us to feather our nests! i say, that’s an easy task with any one of her paintings.

there’s just something about being among the trees. don’t you think? when is the last time you were surrounded by trees? no bustling traffic, no smog, not even your cell phone. just the rustling leaves, slight breeze and chirping birds. i think we all need to make some more time to be surrounded by the beauty of the earth. if you can’t make it into to the woods today, maybe you can take a virtual stroll through the trees by enveloping yourself in katya horner’s beautiful shop.
