i guess i’m in the mood for birds today (that’s no surprise)! above is the beautiful work of natasha newton and i love how she takes her paintbrush off paper and onto other mediums (i especially love these rocks). inspired by the love of birds, nature and astronomy, natasha encourages us to feather our nests! i say, that’s an easy task with any one of her paintings.

this just brings a whole new meaning to going home to roost. these over-sized hanging bird’s nests are called nestrests and are made by a company called dedon. i found them via katie daisy and couldn’t help but agree with her in that i think need one of these.

 

 
these huge-hanging-human nests suspend a quite sanctuary for lazy days, book reading or meditation and would make for quite the interesting meeting place. they’re made of super strong fiber for shelter and security, and it’s a good thing as i’ve wondered how they would hold up over time in the weather. as i can’t seem to find a price or purchase option (…?), for now i’ll be daydreaming about spending my days away in one of these nestful pods.

when i ran across this diy ornithology clock on design*sponge, i about fell out of my chair! i think this clock was destined for me.  so simple, i thought, “why didn’t i think of that?”  the tutorial comes from kate pruitt who is a regular diy contributor on d*s.  not only is this version of eggs and feathers near perfection, but think of all the possibilities for different varieties!  make sure to share with us your results if you decide to get crafty!

good morning monday!  how was your weekend?  mine was a great one full of sunshine and house cleaning (how fun!).  today is the mister’s birthday, so i’ve got a bit of planning and wrapping presents to do today- he’s turning 25!

do you remember the baby robin’s eggs i had in my garden?  well, they hatched and i’ve been able to take pictures of them as they’ve grown and i’m a little sad to say that they’ve flown the coop!  i guess i should have known that was coming.  i couldn’t believe my eyes of how much they had grown every day! here’s a summary of their progression:

aren’t they darling? all four hatched and survived, due to the mother’s highly protective care (and i mean highly!).

these little birdies (not sure what kind?) were in a bird house i have, and i love this ‘surprised’ pic i got of them!  i peeked in on them one day when they were little and found a nest of fire ants all over them , so with a little diatomaceous earth (food grade, very safe) i dusted around the nest and like to think that i saved their little lives!  they’ve flown the coop as well, so it’s all empty nest syndrome here!

would you like to take a walk in the yard with me?  i was out with my camera yesterday, and found lots of goodies to share with you!  i don’t even know what some of the blooms are (like these first ones) but they make me exited none the less. there are splashes of pink, purple and orange all around the yard!

i saved my favorites for last. :)  the first one is of some baby birds we have residing in our birdhouse, they are so big!  and this bottom one is from our resident robin.  she’s laid the prettiest blue eggs i’ve ever seen!  they are in the perfect place for me to take pictures of (without disturbing her or the nest) so hopefully, i’ll be able to track their progress with you!

bethy from eden photography emailed me a few weeks back because she thought these bird’s nest rings from quaint creations were right up my alley, and boy was she right! it took me all of about 60 seconds get one in my shopping cart. they’re kind of perfect, aren’t they?

and so here it is!  my shiny new bird’s nest ring!  i usually wear it on my right hand, but after many failed attempts of trying to use my camera left-handed, i quickly decided to exchange my wedding ring for the bird’s nest ring, just for the photo’s sake, of course. you really should’ve witnessed my struggle.

i could hardly decide which one i wanted, they were all so tempting!

so feminine and lovely, i thought it would be the perfect addition to my spring wardrobe. i love simple pieces that can turn a plain outfit special.

a quick shout out to eden photography who took all of the pictures as well, isn’t her work amazing? breathtaking even.  i love the color pops many of her photos have, she has such a way of capturing beauty.  i could flip through her archives forever!

Hi there, my name is Sam.  I am a block print artist living with my wonderful husband and adorable children in San Jose, California.  When I’m not blogging, designing, or printing I enjoy all of the small pleasures of life: warm bread, fresh basil from the garden, a finished project, something pretty for my home, clean sheets, a good hearty laugh, or a cup of tea and good book.  Bonnie invited me to stop by today to share some of my favorite things with you.  Enjoy!

For me, there is nothing better than the texture of linen, sewn into simple shapes and a bit of jewelry to add some sparkle to my days.

In my home, I am drawn to modern architecture and art, always married with warm wood tones and creamy ceramics.  I hope my friends would say my home is clean, but comfortable, a great place to have a cup of coffee and relax.

On my kitchen table, there will always be simple food, made with fresh ingredients, plus plenty of coffee and a fair bit of dessert to go around.

I love to dig in the dirt, and my favorite plants are those that are willing to share with the inside of the house too.  Whether it is big leafy plants, gorgeous succulents, or food from the veg patch, bringing the outside in is the best part of gardening.
