hello, lovelies! today i have a really fun diy for you- fabric covered notebooks! the steps are very similar to the fabric covered mousepad, so if you made that, this one will be a cinch (but don’t fret, it’ll be easy either way!).

here’s a quick before and after- i covered 2 jotters and a little day planner with custom fabric in just a few minutes!

here’s what you’ll need:

 
1) a piece of fusible web big enough to cover the size of your notebook, front and back. my favorite is lite steam-a-seam 2.
2) one (or more!) notebooks. mine are from moleskin.
3) a pencil
4) a pair of scissors
5) any ‘ol iron
6) a piece of pretty fabric big enough to wrap around your notebook.

how-to:

 
1) cut a piece of fusible web large enough to wrap around your notebook.

2) remove the second liner (check to see which liner removes first by peeling apart at the corner) and stick the fusible web to the wrong side of your fabric and iron into place. place your notebook on the paper liner of your fusible web and trace around it.

3) cut around your traced lines (you should have a piece of fabric that perfectly wraps around your notebook).

4) peel off remaining paper liner (leaving the web on the fabric) and stick to your notebook, making sure to line it up perfectly! press for 10-15 seconds with your iron on medium heat (you might want to lay down a piece of fabric on top of the notebook before you press to act as a heat barrier).

*make sure to follow the package directions on your fusible web as they all tend to vary slightly.

and voila! the fusible web is permanent and allows you to leave your edges unfinished as it won’t fray or lift. hooray!

problem: as i lie awake in bed last night, i realize that inspiration always strikes me in the middle of the night. the best blog post ideas, pattern inspiration or general design related to-dos pop in and out of my head. then, they keep me awake as i’m determined to still remember them when the sun comes up! seriously, i often feel pregnant with inspiration and ideas.

ok, not really a problem: i’m not really complaining here, i’m glad for the inspiration. i just need to sleep.

remedy: i will start to keep a notebook by my bed. this way, i’ll (hopefully) be able to jot down ideas (i.e. get them OUT of my head and ON to paper), and be able to go sleep.

well, today we close another week! friday’s always creep up on me. did your week go by quickly? as i was browsing through the blogosphere earlier, i found this darling diy over at poppytalk, and thought you might like to embark on a craft this weekend. do you journal? occasionally i’ll find myself jotting down ideas or notes, and sometimes i’ll sketch little flowers or patterns out on a piece of paper. notebooks are the easiest way to do that.. and well, let’s just admit it- they’re pretty to have just sitting around. don’t you think? head on over to poppytalk to to get the full diy instructions on how to make this perfectly bound journal.

it’s just that time of year.  summer playing and time at the beach are long gone and it’s time to start thinking about this winter’s hibernation (unless you’re on the other side of the globe, happy spring to you!). what better way to start the season then with a cup of cider and a new handmade notebook to start jotting down your winterisms in? jill from lune wrote this great tutorial on how to turn an old notebook and a thrifted tea towel into one of these snuggly journals.  off to thrift i go (as if i needed an excuse..)!
