apparently, i was in the mood for rich hues today. philip govedare’s landscape paintings fit right in and i’m drawn in by the detail and depth to each of them. i see iceland, arizona and maybe even canada. what about you?

britt hermann’s artwork (discovered via homeground) stands out to me in a beautiful way. something about the darkness draws me in and makes me want to know more. britt shares with us that she loves working with her fingers, charcoal and a good cup of tea, i’m betting that all three were involved in the making of this piece. i love it.

picking flowers in a field. taking a nap upon an elephant. keeping a miniature elephant to cuddle with. today i’m dreaming that any one of these {im}possibilities might come true.

i just love an artists that tells a good story. as you drift through the pages of lilymoon, you’ll find one sweet tale after another. with titles such as ‘true north’, ‘dear mr. rain’ and ‘the girl with the white heart’, her paintings provoke emotion and leave the writing of the story up to the viewer. i don’t think i’ve ever seen snippets of stories illustrated more beautifully.

“A warm bath, a cool day
your heavy arms collapse
a place both near and far away
is tiled with slippery traps.
Be careful when you leave the tub
the steam is rising tall
no matter how you grasp and pull
your towel is bound to fall.”
“We lay content in the warm light of afternoon.
The world may tell us there’s no time to nap, but we will show the world.”
“Between Two Ferns,
but not as funny
we lie in bed, you call me honey
we laugh because we don’t have money
I pinch your nose and it is runny!”
i could immediately tell that there were a couple of love bunnies behind this shop, as it oozes cutesy romance, love and happy poems! you can tell that the adorable clare and her husband-to-be kai have a sweetness about them, which shows up through their work. visit tastes orangey to see more of clare’s sewn paintings and windy lane studio to see her fiance’s beautiful work- even a portrait of her!
