as i scrolled through cynthia vardhan ceramics, i couldn’t help but be amazed that i had never run across it before. an absolute delight for the eyes, cynthia starts at the beginning with each of her pieces. after making them by hand on her potter’s wheel, she mixes her own translucent glaze and signature custom colors. she then painstakingly hand decorates each of them with pigmented clay- all of which helps give the pieces their distinctive raised patterns and visual depth.  inspired by patterns from bali to west africa, each have a story to tell of their own. i love the beautiful vibrancy of the colors, the unique shape of the vases, and the feminine daintiness of them all!

jill rosenwald pottery

learning to work with ceramics and pottery has long been on my to-do list (along with 100 other ‘do before i die’ crafts).  i even have a lonesome kiln just sitting in my pottery shed (currently turned random-garden-tools shed).  someday when i when i pass a clay supplier, i’ll decide it was fate that brought me there, gather lots of supplies and see what i can do with it.  and when i do, i think jill rosenwald’s style is exactly what my mission would be.  what a modern, breath of fresh air style she brings to pottery!  the colors soothe the soul and i’d be one happy camper eating off one of her plates, sipping tea out that beautiful mug..

please welcome, guest poster: lana from joey and lana make a house a home

First I want to say how delighted I am to do a post for Going Home to Roost. I love this blog so much, it’s silly!  I wanted to share with you, exceptional artists who inspire me on a regular basis. From fine art to home goods, I am going to cover some of my favorites from head to toe!

I would like to explore an artist I have loved for so many years. I first discovered his talent when he was focusing on acrylic work of creatures and whimsical landscapes. Then and there I fell in love. Duane Hosien , a native of Trinidad and current New York City resident, has expanded his work into the most deliciously detailed pen-work you have ever seen. Glamour, Germany has just discovered him and commissioned him to do a shirt for a give-away! You can see his work in his etsy store, flickr account, or his blog! I am sure your socks will be knocked right off by his style and detail to attention

Great  for both children and adults! Buttercup Bloom has the sweetest little Etsy shop! The selection is small yet perfect. These make perfect gifts and I love to decorate my home with the owls when Fall comes around.

Super functional and amazingly stylish in a woodsy way! I have been craving these desk accessories for sometime. I promised myself as soon as I buy a new desk, I am getting both! Woodtec provides a simple craft with loads of function.

These handcrafted bowls are the work of Isabelle Abramson! They are so delicate and beautiful. Imagine them in the center of your table filled with delicious fruit or pinecones! I could only imagine the amount of time theses took to make!

So this is just a taste of some of my favorite hand made crafters! I hope you enjoy them and are inspired by their work as much as I am.

please welcome, guest poster: simple grove

Hi everyone! I am so excited to be guest posting here on Going Home To Roost.  I wanted to share with you a great Etsy shop, Jungle Supply.

kirsten1

They sell vintage items, garden items, decor as well as original shelves, cabinets ect.

kirsten2

One of the contributors to the shop, R. Sander is a woodworker & designer from Minnesota.  He creates original shelves, cabinets, shadowboxes, garden homes, etc.  He re-purposes (reclaims) leftover wood and lumber, pieces that have been ‘tossed aside’.

kirsten3

The other contributor, Bri, helps design and finish the pieces, as well as runs the shop.  She loves vintage & antiques, so you’ll find a few hand-selected pieces scattered about the shop.

kirsten4

I am a huge fan of vintage as well as a fan of reclaimed wood.  I would love to purchase their whole store for my own space.
