last week, i got the most delightful e-mail from mark and zoe, affectionately known as mr. & mrs. YOKE, who illustrate and hand print on the bonnie banks of the river tay in scotland. i immediately loved their quirky illustrations and brightly colored prints. i think they give a breath of fresh air and big sense of FUN to the art of printmaking. check out their world here!

words to live by

i just can’t help but feel better after reading jen renninger’s print series, words to live by. isn’t it wonderful when you find art that uplifts and inspires? today, take some of jen’s advice and have hope, sing outloud, make believe or do something good (or, do all four!).

pink bathtub designs

i met noelle griskey a very long time ago, and feel like she’s been a part of going home to roost since the get-go! i have loved watching pink bathtub designs grow and am always anxious to see what she’ll come out with next. noelle hand prints each card herself using hand carved blocks which give them a rustic-whimsy kind of feel that i just love. visit her shop to see more!

lucile's kitchen

lucile is a french artist who has just opened her inspiring little space on etsy- lucile’s kitchen. she’s been drawing and painting since she was a small child, and now finds herself living in her kitchen.  can’t we all relate?  the kitchen is my favorite room in the whole house.  i find myself getting inspired there as well, and lucile translates all those inspirations onto paper.  how beautiful!

make your own product labels

January 28, 2010

i’ve been trying to figure out how to tag my products for a while now.  everything online seemed expensive with minimum orders of 1000 or more, and i just wasn’t ready to take the plunge! so, i was really excited when i found this solution.   using printable fabric makes the job easy, affordable and quick- i made these in just a few minutes!

using printable fabric from printed treasures allows you to simply run the fabric, right through your printer.  you could use this technique for any number of personalized projects, but made my task of making tags an easy one.  your local sewing or craft store should carry this, but just in case they don’t…

there’s an alternative method! you can simply iron freezer paper to the back of any fabric you have, cut it to a printer-friendly size and run it right through.  who knew?! the freezer paper easily peels right off and you’re left with the same result.  you could then even iron it on the other side to make double-sided labels.

this is my sheet of 30 labels, and i made sure to leave plenty of room at the top for sewing them in to my seam.

tagging your items are an important step in selling, especially if you’re filling wholesale or consignment orders.  letting the customer know where the product came from and how to find it again is so important.  and, tagging helps keep your business fresh in the mind of your consumers!

i used pinking shears to cut them out so as to prevent the sides from raveling.  you could also stitch around them to prevent fraying.

sewn right into the seam of my aprons, it makes the task of tagging a cinch!

inkbloom offers downloadable designs and also inkjet fabric stabilizer and blank fabric, so you have everything you need to get creative.. and crafty!  the stabilizer sheets allows you to run the fabric through your printer, and you can use their blank fabric, or any fabric you have at home.  the stabilizer sheets also allow you to print double sided fabric and, once you’re done, can even be used to create beautiful matte stickers and labels.  they have an amazing selection of beautiful prints and patterns to choose from, and i’m thinking you could get pretty crafty with designing your own, too!

doubleparlour was created in 2007 and is a collaboration between ernesto and cassandra velasco.  two artists who produce some really interesting and beautiful work!  they create sculptures out of polymer clay, paintings, drawings and prints.  i love what a different approach they take to art- so oddly amazing!
