with having a new place to decorate, i’ve been prowling design blogland even more than usual.  i try not to be such a sucker for trends, but sometimes i just can’t help it (like with my latest chevron fad).  yes, i even have an antler on order (where is it? .. should be here by now..).  in lieu of amy‘s decorating with maps post last week, i’m taking the hub to our local map store to pick out the biggest one they have that will fit over our recently thrifted desk.  at the same time, i like to make things my own, and put an unexpected twist on things.  through vintage finds, thrift store snags and diy projects (some of which i’ll start sharing with you next week), i like to think there’s a little bit of bonnie in every trend i follow.  i have planned lots of painting, a little stenciling, some cushion covers and quite a few spray paint projects. we’ll see how far i get before monday! what projects are you planning this weekend?

{all pictures are from lonny mag, a sure fire way to gather some inspiration if you’re in the mood to decorate!}

good morning from colorado springs! wow- is it beautiful here! the weather is perfect (as i’ve heard it usually is) and the scenery is simply to die for. we arrived without a hitch, though we flew in on two small planes. i don’t love flying as it is, so i’m hoping for bigger planes on the return flight! our hotel is just across from the city’s historical downtown, so we’re a quick walk to cute shops and yummy restaurants. hopefully i’ll have pics to share soon!

Crafting a Meaningful Home

most recently added to my wish list is meg mateo ilasco’s latest book, crafting a meaningful home. featuring 27 projects that tell personal stories and celebrate heritage, the projects are all budget conscience and beginner friendly. as i am always trying to make my home a handmade haven, i can’t wait to get my hands on this book!

hi dear ones!  well, it seems that the hubba has passed his cold on to me. :(  i’m at home today with a scratchy throat and dizzy head, so i’m going to take the rest of the day off to relax.  i did however, want to thank you for all of your sweet comments lately, they are so special to me!

if you want to see more of our house and the small things that really make it feel like home, i’ve added a few new flickr albums that you can browse.

i’ll be back tomorrow with some handmade goodness and a little something else i’ve been working on. :) i hope you have a wonderful day!

happy friday!  what are you doing this weekend? i don’t have much planned other then spending some time in my sewing room.  i’ve got tons of projects screaming my name! if you’ve got some downtime, check out inkbloom- because you could get seriously crafty!

working

inkbloom puts design- right at your fingertips.  ever go to the fabric store and find that they’ve got your fabric- but in the wrong colorway? with inkbloom, you can create your own fabric, right at home. you can download designs, easily recolor them or personalize them and click print!

working-18

inkbloom offers downloadable designs and also inkjet fabric stabilizer and blank fabric, so you have everything you need to get creative.. and crafty!  the stabilizer sheets allows you to run the fabric through your printer, and you can use their blank fabric, or any fabric you have at home.  the stabilizer sheets also allow you to print double sided fabric and, once you’re done, can even be used to create beautiful matte stickers and labels.  they have an amazing selection of beautiful prints and patterns to choose from, and i’m thinking you could get pretty crafty with designing your own, too!

working-17

their website is full of inspiration and beautiful ideas to help you envision all of the possibilities.  this is truly, a designers dream come true!

did you all have a good weekend?  i spent friday at home most of the day because it was snowing!  we’re having the longest/coldest temps since 1974- so i’ve been doing a lot of roosting.  saturday, however, david had a bike ride to attend in greenville, sc, so i bared the weather and went with him.  it was a balmy 3 degrees when we left- ah!  i found this adorable store called maymebaker studio while i was wandering the downtown streets, and ended up taking some pictures to share with you!  i must tell you about my sunday though first .. some of you may know that my mister, david, is in basic law enforcement training- and will be police officer in just a few weeks!  (i never thought i married the cop-kind- but he’s breaking the mold and doing so well at it!)  anyways, he took me to a shooting range yesterday and taught me how to shoot (i’ve never shot a gun in my  life- yikes!).  i’ve got mixed feeling about guns, not sure what i think most of the time, and generally, they scare me.  but i figured if i’m going to be married to someone who has to carry one everyday for his job- i might as well get comfortable with it.  so needless to say, we all survived.  it was 20 degrees and i was shaking, but managed to hit some pretty good shots on our make-do target (front page of a yoga magazine)!  ok- now to mayme baker:

mb1

this lamp hits you first thing when you walk in the door- swoon! it’s so beautiful!  i think my next major project might be to do something like it.  it was a bit flimsy to the touch- almost like it was done paper-mache style.  the post of the lamp itself looked wrapped as well.  i can’t get it out of my mind!

mb2

the store was set up exquisitely. every time i turned a corner i got lost in all the goodness!  this branch flows over one of the sections, with beautiful clay flowers hanging ever so softly from it.

mb3

the building itself led to an amazing set up with skylights and exposed beams and pipes.  hanging chandeliers brought it all to light.

mb5

this picture really stood out to me. it’s so simply yet represents such a story line.  this might be the next next project, as i was happy to find tons of etsians selling vintage keyholes!

mb4

wouldn’t this umbrella-holding owl look darling next to the front door? i wanted it so badly, but all i could do was drool in the pricey shop ($152 for this piece!).  i’ll be keeping my eye out for less expensive alternatives though- have you seen anything like this?
what did you do this weekend?

update!

well, i found the lamps!  stray dog has an array of beautiful lamps and other homewares- indeed paper mached!
working
i think i’ll still try to get creative, before i buy the mariana floor lamp for $535.00 us (is that bad? sort of what we talked about here, huh?). regardless, it’s nice to window shop these beauties!
