winter essential: boot trays

footed boot tray from viva terra

when i saw this boot tray (discovered via ez pudewa), i immediately glanced over at our muddy boots and realized this is one winter essential we’ve been missing out on. though the one above is no longer available, i decided to include it anyways, since you all are a crowd of talented diy-ers. i think you could pretty easily salvage an old metal crate and add some wheels to it to use as a boot tray! but don’t worry, if that’s not your style here are some others to choose from:

rainy days

we all need a good rainy day from time to time, don’t we? a time to hibernate and a good excuse to keep our comfies on and curl up with a good book. i always love the pitter patter of rain drops on the roof- they just seem create the perfect lullaby for a good afternoon nap. if nothing else, at least it gives us gardeners a break from watering the garden! next time the forecast calls for rain, schedule yourself a little down time and enjoy it.

baby jives

i know we don’t talk about much about babies around here at going home to roost, (i’m sure that will change, somday) but i just couldn’t resist baby jives. i just think these are the sweetest handmade mobiles i have ever laid my eyes upon! with darling butterflies, rainy clouds and smooching birds perched along a branch, can you imagine how fun these would be to gaze up at? with an array of color choices (some more masculine than others) i think there’s one to fit just about any room decor.

a rainbow reminder

July 19, 2010

happy monday!  we spent all weekend in asheville so that the hub could race in the french broad classic.  the sky showered us with rain, thunder and lightening at least once a day, but on our way home yesterday it stopped long enough for this rainbow to shine through.  isn’t it beautiful?  what a sweet reminder that there’s always beauty after the storm.

how was your weekend?

please welcome, guest poster: modish

I’ve always really loved the rain, which I suppose is a good thing since I live in notoriously rainyland Portland, OR. Living here, it’s easy to see all the wonderful effects that the wet weather brings- crazy amounts of green, varieties of foliage the likes of which I’ve never seen before and flowers- so many flowers. From March all the way through the last breath of autumn there’s something in bloom. So I gathered up some rain inspired creations for you hoping that they’ll help bring you lots of April showers so you can enjoy all those beautiful May flowers :)
