a love note

hey everyone! in honor of valentine’s day, i just wanted to say.. well.. i love you! thank you from the bottom of my heart for being a part of going home to roost, and helping to cultivate this amazing creative community. you guys are the best, seriously! i couldn’t do what i do without you (nor would i want to) and it means so much to me that each of you stop by each day to check in on what’s going on in the land of ghtr. i hope your day (and every day) is filled with love, light and laughter and that you get to spend it with your most favorite person on earth.

speaking of, my most favorite person on earth just called and wants me to meet him in town this morning, so i’m signing off to spend the day with my love. see you tomorrow! love, bonnie

vegan valentine's day recipes

with valentine’s day just around the corner (it’s in 2 days, people!) i thought i’d share my annual round up of vegan valentine’s day dinner recipes (you can see last year’s here). it’s easy to get stumped when there’s a special occasion on the horizon, so i hope these sweet and savory options will get your gears turning. this year, we’re planning to just stay in, eat a special meal and maybe watch a movie. though i haven’t quite decided yet what i’ll make, i’ve been eying this recipe for ravioli and this one for vanilla icing shots (yum!).

what will you be cooking this year?

above: roasted chili ravioli | mushroom & spinach pockets | shepherd’s stew | simple tomato soup | spicy crisp tofu | vegetable pot pies | vegetables wellington redux

below: chocolate cake balls | chocolate cupcakes with buttercream | chocolate mini tarts | chocolate strawberries | chocolate frosting shots | sparkling cranberries

for us, valentine’s day tends to be all about eating some really great food. and since there’s no better way to get to a man’s heart than through his stomach, i thought a few dinner ideas might be in need!

Valentine’s Day may be tomorrow, but there is still time to create some seriously pretty love notes. If you’ve seen my Etsy shop, you would know that I know paper cutting words, so I created this easy tutorial for making your own letter stencils, and using color to your wildest imagination.

Supplies

- card stock for stencil
- pencil, and eraser for mistakes
- craft knife / X-Acto blades
- paper or card stock and envelopes for cards
- color medium of your choice – paints, colored pencils, oil pastels, etc.

Begin by writing your message in block lettering. If you don’t feel comfortable writing free-hand, try printing your word(s) in your favorite font to use as a stencil.

Cut out the letters as silhouettes with your craft knife.

Center your stencil over your blank card where you want your wording to appear. Begin filling in your letters with complimenting or contrasting colors. I used colored pencils…

… and neon paints:

Your stencil can be used over and over until it wears out, but make sure it isn’t stained through before using again on a clean blank card.

That’s it! I hope you all have a very lovely Valentine’s Day.

valentine’s day reds.

threads of love and a morning dove.
stitches of joy and my favorite boy.
oh how i love a needle and thread,
in shades of pink, orange and red.
vintage spools make a nice combination,
the perfect setting for a valentine’s creation!

- by yours truly. (hehe!) :)
