grilled artichoke hearts

February 14, 2011

grilled artichoke hearts

perfect for valentine’s day? i like the idea of meals cooked on a theme, so leave it to me to serve heart-shaped brownies and artichoke hearts on valentine’s day.

ingredients:

  • -2 artichokes
  • -1/4 cup fresh parsley – chopped
  • -garlic salt
  • -1 tbs lemon juice
  • -1 tbs olive oil

directions:

bring 4 cups of water to a boil. cut artichokes in half from stem to top. trim the tips of the leaves using kitchen scissors to remove the thorns. boil until fronds are easy to peel off, about 20 minutes. remove and drain cut side down on a towel. brush with olive oil, lemon juice and sprinkle with remaining toppings. grill until blackened (i used a panini maker), about 8 minutes.

never eaten an artichoke? here’s a great how-to article!

my goofy valentine

dear mr. valentine,

here’s my goofy way to telling you how much i love you. you are the creamer to my coffee, the most comfy pair of shoes on my favorite run, the chirping birds to a sunny day. you are the best cuddler. the best at folding my laundry. and the BEST at making me laugh. you are the most wonderful man i’ve ever known and i am completely in love with you.

love, your valentine

valentine’s day is monday! woot woot! i love any excuse i can get to something a little extra special with my sweetie-pie-honey-bun. though i’m not sure what we’ll do yet, i’m sure it will be super awesome (hint hint, hub!). what do you have planned?

DIY valentine's day coffee cup wrappers

this pretty little diy for valentine’s day coffee cup wrappers come from the lovely blog, eat drink chic. do you read it? if not, i know you’ll get hooked as it’s full of yummy diy projects, free printables and lost of inspiration. i think these cute coffee cup wrappers would be the perfect (-ly adorable) way to start out your valentine’s day. make them an addition to that breakfast in bed you’re planning, start your trip or ride to work with them or have them sitting out for a special breakfast. no matter how you use them, i’m sure you’re sweetie will feel all wrapped up in love.

valentine’s day diy

valentine's day diy

valentine’s day card exchange at school. i can still remember the feeling of excitement i would get when it was my turn to hand out my (hand crafted) valentine’s day cards to all my classmates. fast-forward some 6 or 7 (very awkward) years to the days where my high school would sell bouquets of flowers to students to be delivered to their sweethearts. i would get the nervous jitter bugs everytime someone opened the classroom door with a delivery of flowers, only to see them passed to a neighbor (though i think i did receive a bouquet from a ‘secret admirer’ once… creepy?).

my point? i think these diy heart pins from the purl bee would be the perfect project for this year’s valentine’s day exchange at any school. easy to make and suitable for kids- i just love this v-day diy!

valentine's day diy

don’t have kids? i think these would be so pretty pinned to your valentine’s day cards or attached to pretty wool jacket. what do you think? i love the array of colors here, i’m not sure i could choose a favorite (but if i had to, it’d probably be that peachy cream or mustard yellow). head on over to the purl bee for the full diy!

a heartfelt diy

valentine’s day is just around the corner. can you believe it? before we know it love birds all around will be booking reservations, planning special dates and buying chocolate hearts. whether you plan on going out or staying in, a little love and celebration is always good for the soul. to spruce up the holiday decor, i love this diy valentine’s garland from how about orange.

i think we’ve had a good week here, don’t you?  i’ve had so much fun chatting with you all!  i’ve got some more really fun stuff planned for next week, and hopefully i’ll be fulfilling a promise i made long ago on monday- i’m at least going to try!

i had so much fun doing my first mood board, that i’m going to stick to what i said and do some more!  this one of course, was inspired by valentine’s day. cupcakes, cinnamon cookies, dark chocolate and russian tea- yup, that about sums it up!

do you see the soap bar in the middle? that is yummy chocolate soap by mojo spa- and it’s incredible! it smells so delicious.  what could be better than having permission to rub chocolate all over your body? :)

pretty little things like these vintage buttons really me, i love looking at all the little details in life.

mood board

what are you doing for valentine’s day? i think we’re going to lay low this weekend and spend the day at home with movies and a nice dinner.  i really want some new bubble bath, i haven’t had any in months! so i’m just putting that out there- sweetie, did you catch that?

xoxo!
