sseko sandals

sseko sandals (1)

i was thrilled when sseko designs approached me about participating in their 30 says, 30 days to educate women in africa campaign. sseko is a humanitarian brand that makes beautiful sandals, clutches and totes in uganda. their sandals start with a standard base, then come with a huge selection of different straps and patterns which can all be tied in hundreds of ways (pictured above are the sseko sandals with the clochette chiffon straps in the classic tie).

sseko sandals (2)

their unique sandal makes them pretty special, but what makes them even more special is their mission and dedication to educationsseko hires recent secondary school graduates in uganda for a nine month period to live and work together, while earning money that will go directly towards their university education. without an opportunity like this, most of these women would never have the chance to earn the income they do to attend university. the best news is, these women will not make sandals forever. they will go on to be doctors, lawyers, politicians, writers and teachers that will bring change and unification to a country divided and ravished by a 22 year-long war.

i think that’s pretty amazingsseko has also been generous enough to offer ghtr readers a special discount, just enter code “Sseko30x30” during checkout for 30% off your purchase. thanks, sseko!

body beautiful app

we women can be so hard on ourselves and each other, can’t we? with media blasting us with unhealthy body images from every direction, it can be so hard to stay true to ourself. i find that’s it’s especially difficult in january. the time for new beginnings and when everyone is determined to lose weight, start exercising and get fit. well, if you need a breath of fresh air (who doesn’t?) then i hope you’ll welcome this inspiring app to your phone: body beautiful.

body beautiful is the only iphone app that promotes positive body image and self-esteem among women and girls. it includes inspirational quotes, media articles, videos and tools will help you love your body, plus tons of way to share quotes, articles and videos with the other ladies in your life. allie marie smith, the creator behind body beautiful is actually a dear friend of mine and i know you’re going to fall in love with her and her vision! finally, someone has created an app that helps you love and appreciate your body and give it the respect it deserves!

i have been using body beautiful for several months now, and can’t tell you how precious it is to me. whenever you need a quick pick-me-up, reassuring moment or want to help a friend out it’s full of great resources. i especially love the ‘photo stamp’ feature that lets you imprint encouraging messages on a photo of a friend and send it to them. so sweet!

don’t forget, there will never be a more beautiful you!
