halloween has never been a holiday i pay much attention to (though i do love handing out candy to all the neighborhood kids!). i never know what ‘to be’, but i always feel like i should put at least a little effort into, right? masks are usually my go-to costume, so i was excited to make some this year. these woodland animals are longing to be invited to your party!

this series of woodland creatures from gerren lamson took my breath away. each animal is made from vintage photo elements of forest scenes, botanical pieces, patterns, and paintings of nature. they each are set on beautiful weathered forest background and have a gentle halftone to imbue them with the spirit of the past. there are 12 forest critters in all, each available from satchel and sage.

i’m thinking of grabbing several for baby roost’s nursery, since they fit perfectly with our theme of woodland creatures. though it’s hard to choose, i think my favorites are the bear, fox and deer. what’s yours?

i haven’t talked much about baby roost around here yet, partly because i don’t want to change the dynamic of going home to roost and partly because we haven’t moved into our new home yet. the truth is though that i’m so excited, so obsessed and so in love! i know once we get moved into our new place (hopefully next month), i’ll be sharing more with you but for now we feel like we’re kind of stuck in a state of limbo. one thing i’ve had time to do though is start dreaming up a nursery for our little man. above is a sneak peek at the direction we’ll be taking. what do you think? if you like, you can also follow the baby roost pinterest board for more inspiration along the way. xo

i didn’t actually realize how much these works of art had in common until i put them all together in this post for you. it’s funny how sometimes we’re just drawn to similar colors, themes and values, isn’t it? i suppose right now i’m loving tribal themed, floral accented, woodland inspired artwork!

i think masks are a classy way to approach halloween – plus they’re an easy way to truly transform yourself! as woodland creatures are always my go-to, i think these furry friends are simply to die for.
